Dallas is ten times the size of BR so of course there is more traffic volume. But I tell you, driving around Dallas is not nearly as frustrating.

Dallas has also completed some significant projects in the same time frame where BR has sat around letting issues get worse.

When I first moved there for college from Dallas, I was shocked by the many disparities and differences in quality of life.

But after four years, I was used to it.

I don't think I could ever live there, but visiting for ball games is nice.

Don’t spend time in those areas and the odds that you’ll be a victim of a crime fall off a cliff.

To put it another way, if we split Baton Rouge into two cities, north and south, South Baton Rouge would become a “safe city” overnight.

That used to be true.

There are still some good areas. But damn, the ghetto is closing in on them in a way that never used to be the case. Also, a lot of decent areas are hellholes now.

Are you disputing the fact that BR is one of the most dangerous cities in the country?

There are positives about BR, guy with “225” in his username.

I grew up there and in the 90s/early 2000s, I had a great life. It was a fun place to go to college.

Sadly it continues to go downhill, and if you’re out of college and not pushing out kids and paying $10k/year for private education, it’s just not a good place to live. So I got out of dodge.

I still love visiting once a year, eating like a fatass, and then getting the hell out.

A lot of you live in a bubble it seems.

Sure, Louisiana/BR is awesome if you inherited a business or your dad hooked you up with 6 figure plant job.

If you're the average guy who has to move up in his career, can't coast by on nepotism, can't afford a gated community or private schools at 29, and doesn't get any outside help, it can be a pretty brutal place.

Would much rather a place where I can move up in my career, not deal with people who steal my property, has decent public schools, and I don't have brown stuff in my water.

Because it’s the OT. I live here and don’t have a negative view like most of the posters.

I’ve lived in BR for over 30 years and have never had anything stolen from me, never felt threatened or attacked by anyone, never had an issue with schools, have enjoyed low cost of living in terms of income taxes and property taxes, have entertainment of LSU sports, festivals, farmer markets, concerts, and good restaurants. We have a close community of friends and generally people are always lending to give a helping hand even if it’s someone I just met. I don’t understand why there is such a bad reputation of the city.

Had some friends who stopped to visit on their way to Colorado a couple of weeks ago.

They asked what is there to do in Baton Rouge?

Only thing I could think of was the zoo.

BR has a weird history , like there are groups of people who sit around that plan to torpedo anyone who tries to improve the place.

People will down vote, but part of the hate is that a lot of people on here hate blacks.

Sure. The crime statistics by race sort of play into that for BR. Why the negative view? You can’t have a football game/festivities without that negative aspect of culture creeping over in the form of shootings.

It’s a terrible look.

oh look, a person who views the world through the prism of race is claiming racism. Shocker.

Probably more the groups behavior than the color of their skin. But I'm not conditioned to see skin color first, and all else second.
