A friend of mine inherited a timeshare after her dad passed away. They seem pretty happy with it
I’m sure there are people who don’t mind them but you end up paying a boatload of maintenance fees for something most people simply stop using. And you can’t get out of it.
Give it time. She’ll get sick of it eventually.

We sit in these all the time to get free rooms. At Disney we had a free week at whatever that resort is there…orange something, I dunno, I still spent 6k. But anyway, it’s shocking that those pitches work. People really pay up to 60k for “future” vacations.

My gosh it has been over 15 years and they haven’t complained about it yet. They use it for Disney World every year.

Sat through a sales pitch on a weekend in Myrtle Beach once, back when we were poor. My wife and I agreed there's no way we would consider one regardless of the BS they were gonna feed us. After I extricated us out of there and we were alone, she said, "Well, it seems like a pretty good deal". Had to suppress my impulse to smack her.

Why do people get timeshares?
Take a dose of stupidity, mix in a heathy portion of gullibility, throw in some lack of impulse control with a dash of poor decision making, and what you have is the prime time share customer.

No. People are stupid.

They gave us a free weekend somewhere and we toured some kind of camp. If you took their tour and listened to their sales pitch, they would give you a free TV too. My parents just listened to the pitch, and never would agree to anything. Finally the sales guy said something to the effect of, "You just came to get the free trip and TV didn't you?" My dad looked right at the guy and said, "Yep."
This was an episode of “King of Queens”.

I just assumed most people rented their week out and recovered some of their $

My late great aunt and uncle (RIP) had a time share in St. Thomas because she was in a wheel chair for their last 30 years together and they wanted to know they had a vacation spot that was handicap accessible to the Nth degree.
I just want to say mad respect to your uncle for keeping his wedding vow.

The SO's parents have a timeshare in Gatlinburg they purchased back in like the 80s. So they always offer us a free week to go down, but it's usually end of June when it's nuts so we've only gone a couple of times. They go every single time though for their two weeks in June and week in October.
They do have the option of transferring the week to another property by a certain cut off date. We're not doing it this year but we considered paying the small fee to move the week up to a place near Mackinac Island.

I've sat through a sales pitch for one just to get a steeply discounted vacation. Took an hour of my time and I saved $1,000+ so it was worth it. The guy knew I wasn't buying so he wasn't trying to sell it too hard.
no offense, but this is literally the MO. they start with a ridiculously high initial price then steadily drop it over the course of 2 hours until by the end the price they wanted to start with, you pay thinking you just got in for 85% off.
did they ring the bell for you when they closed?

The man was a saint. He had a heart attack literally the day after his wife died. He survived it for a bit but was gone within a year. It was like he was put on this earth to care for his wife and when her time was up, his task was complete.

My inlaws bought into what is now Hilton 30 years ago. I think 5k. They pay 3k a year in fees. Their hobby is traveling. They have been to Hawaii and Seattle the past 4 months. Usually do a big AZ trip every year. Also, they have a big week long family vacation every year to Orlando with all their kids amd grand kids. They get more out of it than they put in. Best described as paying for your vacations up front. But you have to use it or it doesn't make sense.

All I know is if you buy one, buy it second hand. Have a friend that did that and he’s traveled to a bunch of different spots and says he’s come out a head. Also the Disney one is the best one if you like Disney. It has a few other places besides Disneyworld you can travel to like Hawaii and Hinton Head.

Its owning a piece of property, no wonder you millenials don’t understand
You don't own shite. And I'm not a millenial. I'm Gen X and would never be stupid enough to pay for something like that.
The legend of El Gaucho continues.
