Seems like a pretty stupid thing to do. The contracts are hostile and you're not guaranteed to get anything but you still have to pay for it. Just rent a place for a week like normal people.

They draw people in by promising them free shite just for attending a seminar, and then once they get them in they have shady salesmen doing their tactics on gullible people to get them to sign shite they don't really understand

I remember going with my parents to one of those things as a kid. They gave us a free weekend somewhere and we toured some kind of camp. If you took their tour and listened to their sales pitch, they would give you a free TV too. My parents just listened to the pitch, and never would agree to anything. Finally the sales guy said something to the effect of, "You just came to get the free trip and TV didn't you?" My dad looked right at the guy and said, "Yep."

That was the end of the sales pitch and they told us to leave. I respected my dad for that.

My late great aunt and uncle (RIP) had a time share in St. Thomas because she was in a wheel chair for their last 30 years together and they wanted to know they had a vacation spot that was handicap accessible to the Nth degree.

Other than specific circumstances like that, I have no idea why you would get a timeshare.

You don't own shite. And I'm not a millenial. I'm Gen X and would never be stupid enough to pay for something like that.

A friend of mine inherited a timeshare after her dad passed away. They seem pretty happy with it

When one that is not a millenial gets called a millenial, words must be said.

My late father was the biggest sucker alive. You could talk him into anything. I tried to beg my parents not to buy a timeshare that ended up being a colossal waste of money. And my sister was dumb enough to take it over when he passed. I’d have made them sue me to take that crap over.

The fact that there is an entire industry around getting out of these hostile contracts should be enough reason for why they are bad.

I only know one person that enjoys their timeshare and feels like they got a good deal (I'm 30 so I don't know many people with them at all).

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, Christmas Week is their week and it has enough space for their kids too.

they sell you on the "vacation for free the rest of your life" but hide the annual maintenance fees that go up every year.

I've sat through a sales pitch for one just to get a steeply discounted vacation. Took an hour of my time and I saved $1,000+ so it was worth it. The guy knew I wasn't buying so he wasn't trying to sell it too hard.
