It's become trendy to blame many of our societal issues on social media. Even though the problems with social media stem from much more obvious issues like single-parent homes.

Sure, it gives attention seekers their means.
But social media, especially Facebook, seems to get the blame for all kinds of perceived downfalls in society. It’s also ironic that we see people blaming social media on social media, including TD.

I say perceived because except for school shootings, the United States is in much better shape in most ways than it was 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago

Dear fricking Facebook....

And as far as bullying goes... back then , the kid would just be teased in the hallway.. now they get roasted on Twitter or Facebook or Snapchat and I can imagine it being a 24/7 hell where the kid just snaps .

What do people do today when they see somebody in (sometimes life-threatening) distress? Do they stop to help? Intervene? Usually not. They simply whip out their camera phones so they can video and post another human beings misery to Facebook or Instagram.

Bc it is; too many drama queens want their 15 minutes of fame and then the either record it or tell the story.

This. A few weeks ago my fiance and I saw a guy whose motorcycle had caught on fire. It was laying in the middle of the road. We immediately pulled over to see how we could help. We ran to get a fire extinguisher from a nearby restaurant and helped put it out out.

Dude said about 15 cars passed and we were the first people to stop. One car rolled down the window told him they were calling 911 and drove off. Pretty damn sad.
We gave him a ride to his house after the fire department got there so he could get his truck.

People are losing their social skills with the internet. They can interact on the computer, but when it comes to talking face to face they get nervous or something. Drive through LSU's campus during class hours. Look at the bus stops. Everyone has their phone pulled out looking at social media and there's little to no face to face interaction. If you're not careful students will walk into the street with their face in their phone.

You can add "reality TV" to your OP. People/kids see these shows, and they believe this is the normal way that everyone behaves

Message boards/forums aren't consindered "social media". They have been around for decades longer than the platforms that today are coined social media.

the boards/forums on social media for comments are the same. Somebody posts a vid/pic/article the comments are very similar to ones strictly on a board.

Right.. then people will glorify it and make it seem ‘cool’ so then it gets imitated, then duplicated

Look at how the cash me ousside girl became ‘popular’, and now you have 3-4 other trashy arse, misguided girls that are pretty much the same thing
