Sure, it gives attention seekers their means.
But social media, especially Facebook, seems to get the blame for all kinds of perceived downfalls in society. It’s also ironic that we see people blaming social media on social media, including TD.

I say perceived because except for school shootings, the United States is in much better shape in most ways than it was 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago

We just get to see how narcissistic and immoral people are now. Society/humans have always been evil. Oh, and stupid, people flaunt just how dumb they really are, just for attention.

i mean it's creating a population of narcissists. hell kids who are like 12-16 know no other mentality/perception

it's allowed big data to refine our humanity down to an algorithm, making it even easier to manipulate individuals and the masses

and it created the duck face

And in many ways it isn’t.

If by better you mean more trashy and obsessed with themselves and their own trashiness, then yeah.

Because it changed how people socialize and talk to one another. Way worse eye contact and empathy from what I’ve seen, and it has definitely affected the attention span of young people in a bad way.

It’s bad for insecure teens as well because others post their nice cars, perfect lives, etc. Best way is to just log off and not care and only worry about yourself and close friends.

The effort it took me to see a picture of a naked lady in the 70’s when I was a kid compared to today is a little different.
So plug in the violence that’s accessible and it tells you things have changed because of the internet and social media. A 10 year old can basically watch a beheading any time he wants.

Message boards/forums aren't consindered "social media". They have been around for decades longer than the platforms that today are coined social media.

I don’t think it’s the sole reason but it certainly plays a big part.

Probably true. But How would social media be the reason for that?

Yet violent crime is down relative to 20 years ago

Downfall of society might be a little dramatic

But there is legit scientific literature showing the negative effects

This is the next generation of "back in my day things were better." Millennials are getting old and are getting all "get off my lawn-y."

Social media portrays a false picture of people. If you are depressed and look on social media....it can make you feel worse cause you end up comparing your crappy life to what you see portrayed on social media(which is usually false).

I can easily see impressionable young kids/teens get wrapped up into comparing themselves to what they see on social media.

I mean as a teen when I was younger you compared yourself to the other kids at your school. What they wore, drove, etc. It’s like that x1000 nowadays cause of social media. I’m thankful all this technology didn’t surface until I was long out of college.

Yeah, this. As a society we have taken a major step backward in the last 20-30 years.

People have access to more information than ever before, however much of its false or propaganda

Critical thinking skills are declining, social skills are declining.
