re: Why do people admit someone is smarter than they are, but still refuse to listen?

The relationship angle is moronic and leads to bias. You must have something in common to relate with people not tied to work....to work with them? That's not arse backwards?
I told the director (now retired) who hired me that I don't care about people's kids, holidays...I don't need to decorate my office. My forte is process improvement, data analysis, and investigations. I'm the cleaner and have no issue with telling someone that they are sub-par and the department would be better served by a replacement. I also told him that I often thought about a career change to Human Resources.... that way I can address problems before we allow them in the company.
During an interview, I may do something like "accidentally" drop a pencil on the ground. If they move to pick it up for me, I know that they have the ability to work as part of a team. If they don't, immediately off my radar.

The dropping the pencil on the ground thing sounds fool proof. You seem ambitious and probably intelligent, but you don’t know near as much as you think you do about the world. Humility can be extremely valuable.

Plenty of people are smarter than me. Few of them apply themselves or are willing to do what's necessary to advance beyond their current level.

I will admit when I was younger, I kind of had the attitude that if someone isn’t super smart(in the traditional sense of the word), that they basically had nothing to offer me as far as teaching me anything. Just living life one realizes this is not true. People who are not “smart” can be very wise.

So you’re autistic and a moron.

Hey, I made good money writing term papers for these idiots. You recognize your skill and monetize it. Everyone’s a whore

Just because someone is smarter than me doesn’t make them right every time. Pretty simple.

I've been working with a guy for the last 10 years. He taught me everything I know about my field and he's one of the best around at doing his job. He's also almost certainly living with undiagnosed Asperger's.
He's so analytical and thorough that it's detrimental to him. Even though this guy is amazing at his job, nobody wants to deal with him. Management won't even communicate with him. They give me messages to relay to him and he will send me emails for me to rewrite and forward to the recipient. Over the course of the 10 years, he's been in the same position and I've moved up twice and am currently head of the division. All because this dude can't talk to people without sounding like a soulless android. Anyway, someone else is probably profiting from your autism.

I've just transferred Departments (very large company) (last day 10/30). I will not be working with anyone even remotely close to the place I'm leaving after just barely 3 years.
The position before this one, I said to the director in the interview.."By the description of your department, It sounds like you need a Savior." Used the same line to transfer to my next post.
I look for older directors and then show everyone how much they don't have a handle over the dept they head. Got my hands full with the next one, she was name top 50 people in the country in her specialty and was once appointed by the Governor to a position 15 years ago.

I say this with sincerity and for your benefit.... Regardless of your intelligence, you're not going very far in any company by being a disruption to the department in which you work. Don't expect a supervisor to put you in a position to succeed if you insist on positioning yourself to fail.

Older directors do not innovate and typically fall into what "they know". So it's far easier to wow external stakeholders when you bring in simple, easy to integrate, modern processes. Just using O365 tools (Microsoft Enterprise), you can enhance oversight, workflow tracking, and produce canned reports without an single $ of investment. The tools are all there, but mentally lazy people cannot seem to motivate themselves to even click on them to see how they may improve life.
This is opportunity.

Heads and tails...50/50
Smart vs dumb...90/10
What do you take when calling heads or tails, and does it matter?
Now, do the next part.

“Dumb” wasn’t a part of the question in the OP, and because a person is smarter than me doesn’t mean it’s a 90:10 ratio.

To be fair, Musk did go to a Ivy League school though lol

You vastly overestimate your own intelligence in fields you are so painfully obviously deficient in.
You are a tech guy. Not a people guy. Not a team guy. Not a leader.
But worse than that, your head is so far up your own arse you can’t see what you aren’t.

This explains a lot. If you’re a 20-year Oracle dba, then I’ll listen to your Oracle advice, but if you give me advice about almost anything else I’ll treat it like advice from any other idiot.
