It is 80 degrees outside but the fireplace is going and it feels like 85 inside.

Older people are more sensitive to the cold.

As they are likely to die at any minute having a colder house would slow decomposition.

The warmer it is the faster it smells and someone can realize they have passed, since their shithead kids don't check anymore

My inlaws are from Ecuador and goddamn they keep it hot in the house. I always walk straight to the thermostat when I get there.

It's not just aging. My parents have always been freaks about "winter weather," since they were my age. As soon as they hear a news report about a possible temp drop, they have to fire up the heater so I can relive high school two a days helping in the kitchen.

My guess is that people who grew up in the South before central air/heating are more easily freaked out by a slight temperature drop.

Its 80 degrees and you have the fireplace going and you are asking why people keep their homes so hot?

I just got back from my moms. She is 70 years old, she was cooking, oven on and all, there were 14-15 people in the house, 78 degrees outside and she asked if it wasn't too cool for anyone..

I know what you mean. My grandparents were that way. Now my folks, especially my dad, is like that. I keep our house around 72/73 and he wears a jacket when he's over.

My dad keeps his house pretty hot year round. His reason is because he has low blood pressure. He wears a flannel shirt if it's under 85.
