Seems like the vast majority want to put their stamp on stuff and not maintain the status quo....

Probably because the new manager was brought in specifically to change the status quo.

You just concentrate on being the best fry cook you can be and leave these bigger picture issues to we elites.

Most of the time it results from promotions of the previous person

If they brought in a new manager, the old way of doing things wasnt getting the job done. YOU adapt or leave.

So they can get a pat on the head.

We have had 4 new ones in 10 years, they always have all these great ideas which cause more problems than good then eventually fail.

Then we go back to doing things the way we always did

Everyone assuming the old manager was fired or something was wrong. Could have just they got promoted or another company hired them away.

When I was promoted to an important management position, the first thing I told everyone was that I am not changing anything until I see the overall picture of how everything operates, and then decide if anything should be changed. If it works well, then there is no need to change anything. Maybe it can be enhanced to improve efficiency, but the meat and potatoes will stay the same.

I worked with/for so many prima-donnas and blow-hards who would assert themselves without taking the time to evaluate the operation. They calculated how they would do something to put their name on the map with superiors, and would fire off emails with everyone and their mother copied on it to bring attention to something that could just be taken care of by him and no one has or needs to know. They did this to sell themselves, and constantly had the mindset of selling their importance to the company to climb the ladder. My stance was only go to your boss when you can't handle the situation or need guidance. Leave him/her alone otherwise. The less stress you put on your boss the more you are valued. Being a productive low maintenance subordinate will get you the promotion if you have a good boss.

One of the most horrible things I saw was when it was apparent that there would be a layoff for a high ranking position that is hard to get/keep, one of the dudes threw the other dude (with the same position) under the bus and Wrote a letter to all of their bosses describing why he should not be the one getting let go if they decide to layoff. He cited budgets, statistics, what the other guy has failed on, everything. A ton of research was done to write this (all on company time). The other guy was let go.

Lot's of insecure people in the corporate world that will eat their own with no remorse. I hated the corporate game these chumps would play. Glad I moved on.

The problem isn't new managers making changes. The problem is new managers changing aspects of a business that were working fine and they end up making things worse.

They have no idea what they're in for but HR loved their enthusiasm during the hiring process but if they hand out this book during their first two weeks, update your resume:
