I also stay to the curb side when walking with a female on a sidewalk, keeping her to the inside. Being polite takes maybe an extra 5-10 seconds & still makes a nice impression.

I understand holding a door, I understand saying ma'am, I understand walking street side, but I don't understand how standing when they getup from the table is still polite these days. It has no practical purpose whatsoever

I guess its an ok cheap joke but its true.

In many settings you are also supposed to stand for men. It's not done near as much anymore but it's still technically correct etiquette.

It's a tradition to show the lady you weren't thinking about her naked. If you're sporting wood you shouldn't stand up but everyone will know why.
