I'm a young lad that's done well in football and am about to get drafted into the NFL. Why do I need an agent?

Because you aren't an expert contract negotiator.... Or a football player for that matter.

You don't

Don't need lawyers either

Your cousin Tay-Tay's idea for a phone card kiosk at the mall is a good investment idea, give him 5 million

Because you don't know how to maximize your value and earnings during contract negotiations.

I would suggest that you do get an agent since you probably can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

Good luck if you think you can juggle taking phone calls all day from teams, family, friends, sponsors and schedule your days all on your own.

You don't. You can represent yourself.

21 year olds with no business experience negotiating multi-million contracts with team executives. What could go wrong?

And that doesn't even take into account endorsement deals. Agent will find more endorsement deals and be able to milk them for more money than what a player could likely do on their own.

I read that as a hypothetical question.

At 21 years old do I think you can negotiate with a team of lawyers and cap experts. These contracts are extremely complex to make all the money work on the cap.

Do your best to get Ricky Williams' cell number, call him up and ask him whether or not he should've hired a skilled agent before the draft. That's all you need to do.

Same reason Saban needs Sexton to handle his bidding and continued salary bumps.

Read up on Ricky Williams’ contract and how much money he left on the table.

You're right, I was thinking about how bad of a job RW's agent did for him when Ditka traded the entire draft for him. I think "No Limit" made his contract 95% performance based which could've really turned out bad for him.
