Why do gas pumps constantly just cut off??

Every time I get gas the pump just shuts off. You have to constantly keep redoing the handle.

some kind of vent system? My Silverado has this problem, but only with certain pumps. I have to raise or lower the nozzle to find the sweet spot.

Better that than the ones that don't cut off and start to spew has over you and the car.

I also have a Silverado and mine does the same thing. But it seems like its only at certain pumps

The less gas you have in your tank the more vapors are collected and shuts off the pump (simulates tank being full. Lot can do with tank design as well as pump settings.

If I had to guess there's probably some sort of valve shutoff device when it detects increased pressure coming out of the spout. IIRC its there to stop vehicles from spilling gas.
New cars have anti siphoning devices that keep thieves from stealing your gas. A lot of times the antisiphoning device blocks the gas coming out, causing the pump to stop.

Your vent hose be fricked
I've got a backup in the Evap system and a pinched vent hose on my 55 gallon tank. Fuel just squirts out the whole time I'm filling up and when it gets close to full, it shoots out the spout. Then, for about 50 miles, fuel drips out of my tank

Gas pumps are like women. When you stick it in. If you don't hit the sweet spot you get cut off.

The slow gas pump is far more annoying than the start and stop pump.
