Why do diesel driving baws love to let their engines idle?

Do they have some limited amount of starts/stops in them? It seems everyone I know with a diesel truck will just let it sit there and idle for long periods of time while they are working on something or doing something else instead of just turning it off, then starting it when they are ready to go somewhere.

Makes their truck nuts jiggle

It’s terrible for your car to stop and start it within a short amount of time

Google should be your friend

Let me explain. My tractor that looks like this
burns 0.7 gallons per hour while idling. So now figure that in a F250.

If you are not going to be going too long, it's better to let a diesel engine idle than to turn it off then a few minutes start it up again...

I see this and think to myself that if I was a ballsy thief this would be a good opportunity to steal a gun from that baws console. You know all those guys carry.

Diesels burn like 0.9l/hr idling for my 2.0 suv engine.

I have no idea if you're right or not but I still down voted.

Diesel engines generate large amounts of heat.
Needs idle time to help cool every thing down.
Shutting the oil off of your red hot turbo would not be good for longevity

What really grinds my gears is when I see a cop car just idling in a parking spot outside a business. I'm paying for that shite and I'd appreciate if you try and conserve a little bit.
