They’ve all done their market research and people in the front generally pay more to be there and want to be boarded first to feel special and get settled in.
If I were in first class, I would want to board last, not have my head hit by all the people walking past me and sneezing in my drink. Get it once you sit down before the plane departs.

More time to sip my free bourbon as I watch the peasants board.

And watch the talent pass and give each an OT ranking. You maybe on to something

My take the airlines want the people that pay the first class prices to feel as if they got their money’s worth for those ridiculous prices.
90% of the people in first are using points, miles, etc and not paying those high prices.

Then load rest of the plane like this Zone 1. Window seats Zone2 middle Zone 3 aisles
Now you’re separating families and kids during the boarding process. That would be a disaster.

Lots of 2-3s in those “athletic” pants, with the occasional “7” unicorn I can imagine.

And the charge the wrong people for luggage. Charge carryons some fee.
Yeah the $$$ for each checked bag is flawed. The first checked back should be free and they should charge for a 2nd carryon....

I see it all the time. Someone in coach sprints to the front as soon as the plane stops rolling. I’d guess about 20% of my flights have this happen.

I wear my mask until the unwashed poors pass by on their way to steerage, I also go Johnny Depp on them as far as eye contact

I don't get why the flight attendants don't just make everyone put their bag in the overhead bin over their seat. Board back to front, monitor the baggage, and board quickly.
Seems really easy.

Business travelers…board any order cause they are efficient most every time.
Non business travelers (like high school bands and their families going on a national trip) (for example that disrupted a leg to my international trip one time)…start boarding 1.5 days early.

For what it’s worth, most people in first class didn’t buy first class tickets, they just fly A LOT and get comped upgrades.
Entertainers and wealthy families are the exception.
Edit: I got severe dagger eyes from the 50+ people waiting to check their bags when I rolled straight in SkyPriority yesterday. I don’t know how to properly explain that it is a meager offset to being a horrible father and husband.

I think they did a study and Southwest doing the pick a seat thing was the fastest way to load a plane
The first time I flew on a full flight that wasn't Southwest, you could tell which kids in our group were from Southwest territory because we were surprised to find out we had to sit in assigned seats.
