Rich people pay to be seated prior to the unwashed masses to look at them with derision and so that the rich people get guaranteed overhead space.

Classism. Rich people and people not flying on their company dime get first on first off treatment.

Also to all you assholes in the back who stand up immediately when the plane stops and run to the front - you are the worst people ever.

I've always thought it would be best to load back to front but Group A still boards first. Minimal people going past after you sit. Relax. Then, deboard front to back. Easy peasy Japanesey.

The solution is to figure out how to handle carryon space privileges. They could maybe have a service for elites where the gate workers place their luggage above assigned seats before everyone boards. Then elites board last.

Last 5 rows must gate check their overhead carry-ons if the flight is at 80%+ capacity. 90%+ last 10 rows

It’s a thought.

It depends on the airline. My wife used to work for JetBlue so I've flown a shitload of their flights.

They first seat anyone needing a wheelchair and/or the elderly who move slowly.

Next, Mosaic customers (basically, their "frequent as frick flier club" and active military (must have your ID).

After that are the Exit Row and Even More Legroom passengers (the larger seats are at the front of the plane and cost more because of the extra room).

From that point it's loaded back-to-front (which is divided into a couple of groups). This goes pretty quickly.

Maybe I’m alone here, but boarding first when the flight has assigned seating doesn’t seem beneficial to me. You just pay more to sit on the plane waiting longer for everyone to board. Wouldn’t it be more of a luxury to be the last ones to board so you don’t have to be on the plane longer or in case you’re running late for whatever reason?

It's better if you ride the bus. The challenge is definitely beyond your pay grade.

Apparently lacking in critical thinking skills. Flying Southwest there is reason to get on board as fast as possible .....

If you are seated in seat 38 "A" on a normal flight. Other than the possibility of there being zero overhead storage ..... sit in the gate until they call 10 to enter the plane. Then you can waltz to your seat in the back of the bus.

It would be more orderly too. Fills up from back to front and nobody in your way trying to cram bags in overhead dept.

When me and the wife(no pics) were coming back from Vegas a couple weeks back Delta loaded the first class and comfort first, then started loading from the back. We were towards the front of the main cabin and I barely had room for our overhead luggage by the time we got on. I had to cram them in

I feel like more airlines started loading back to front during COVID. I think I had one flight where they boarded us just a couple rows at a time.

It’s because I want to get in my big comfy first class chair, order a drink, and watch the plebes file past.

I always thought that it should board back to front, or load the plan through a back door if possible. This would require a longer bridge to reach the back of the plan etc.
The issue with this is that the better seats are usually upfront and if they board last they will wait longer to board and possibly run out of luggage space.

100% due to carry-on overhead space.

I've flown quite a bit and honestly have never not had an overhead space for my bag. Granted I fly with a backpack, not a suitcase and sometimes I put it 1-2 rows in front of my seat assignment.
