Why do airlines board planes front to back?

Maybe I’m alone here, but boarding first when the flight has assigned seating doesn’t seem beneficial to me. You just pay more to sit on the plane waiting longer for everyone to board. Wouldn’t it be more of a luxury to be the last ones to board so you don’t have to be on the plane longer or in case you’re running late for whatever reason?

The boarding gate is usually a shite show. The quicker your out of that area the better.

I think they did a study and Southwest doing the pick a seat thing was the fastest way to load a plane

Overhead storage I would guess. Other than that it makes more logical sense to load back to front so slow dumb dumbs don’t take up the aisle.

1) Carry on space
2) so the rich people can laugh at all the poors when they walk past.

if it's good enough for wiping, it's good enough for flying

Overhead bin space is a reason to want to be on sooner than later.

Not fighting for overhead space is an underrated perk of flying first or business class.

They should load every 5 rows at a time. Starting with the back then moving forward. Then starting again from the back.

Then no one has to wait while someone is putting their shite up.

Because the people who paid more to sit toward the front (first/business class, economy plus, comfort, exit rows etc) get first dibs on overhead bin space.

My initial guess would be it has to do with luggage allocation. May be more of a holdover for when there were more seating classes and differences there, but the last ones on full flights almost always will have issues with the overhead storage. So, those paying more get on first and ensure no issue there. Just a guess though.

Would go much faster if they boarded the back of the plane first. Then you wouldnt have to wait on each slow poke to put their bag up so you can move past them.

100% due to carry-on overhead space.

But airlines actually experimented with this during height of Covid and it was way more efficient.

The solution is to figure out how to handle carryon space privileges.

They could maybe have a service for elites where the gate workers place their luggage above assigned seats before everyone boards. Then elites board last.

It’s like vultures waiting for a carcass to die at the gate when boarding time comes close

Load the first class passengers first to balance the fat poors in the back, otherwise the plane would tip over.

You don't have to board when they call your group. You can wait till the end.

Okay so if you’re on the backside of the plane you don’t get to use the overhead bins. Problem solved.

I agree. I don’t wanna sit on a plane for one minute more than I have to. I sit outside the gate til the last minute then board. Never had a problem with overhead space or anything.

The Boeing jet that loads in the center (so 1st class and Comfort+ go left and the poors go right) is the way to do it. The only drag is that 3 Comfort+ passengers get trampled by the elephants.

Regardless is zone I usually wait until everyone else has boarded to board. The only downside is sometimes finding overhead storage is tricky.
