tradition, I guess that was a science show that tested all the ways to load a plane and front to back was one of the worst

They’ve all done their market research and people in the front generally pay more to be there and want to be boarded first to feel special and get settled in.
But yes it would be more efficient to board back to front. It would also help to charge for carry ons and make checked bags free but that will never happen either.

The higher fare paying cabins are in the front. First class, economy plus/comfort. Airlines have made each fare class a very distinct product and boarding first (for overhead space, pre-departure beverage, etc) is something they can monetize. The cost of a boarding procedure that takes 5-10 minutes longer really doesn’t compare to the revenue their premium cabin generate.

First class boards first so drink orders can be taken and meal orders where needed. I usually enjoy a drink or two while watching the peons shuffle past to the rear.

I hope you’re sitting down because I have something to share that may shock you.
Even if you have a seat in the front of the plane, you can choose to wait and board the plane at the last possible moment if you’d like.
Eta: Also, being waited on in first class and having drinks brought to you while you wait to takeoff is way better than sitting at the gate.

I’m usually one of the last on the plane even when in business class. I hate rushing to get on just to sit and watch the shite show pass by.

Orders could be taken for first class at the terminal gate while the other passengers board the plane. Plus, if the poors have already boarded by the time you get seated then you don’t have to suffer through their stench and ugliness.

Zone 1. Window seats
Zone2 middle
Zone 3 aisles
And the charge the wrong people for luggage. Charge carryons some fee. Too many people trying to cram crap up there. Check your bags. Airlines have gotten so much better at it. In 25 years of business travel I’ve lost bags maybe two or three times. They showed up by the next day.

Just got back off vacation with multiple airport stops. My wife said the exact same thing. Shitshow getting on the plane just board from the back and be done with it. My take the airlines want the people that pay the first class prices to feel as if they got their money’s worth for those ridiculous prices.

So that the dude in the middle seat in comfort plus on a four hour flight to the west coast can claim victory because he got his carryon stored and you didn’t. Big win.
