Why did the US/Trump admit to the drone strike?

Why didn't they just blow that guy up and keep hush hush? It coulda looked like anyone done it or a terrorist.

He didn’t “leak” anything regarding our planned strike on QS
What he said to the dinner members was no different than what he said on twitter earlier that day
