What's a good mix of dress shoe and work shoe? I'm expected to dress nicely at work, but I'm on my feet so much and in so many different conditions indoors and outdoors that it doesn't make sense to buy something like Allen Edmonds. I've been buying Johnston and Murphy's the last few years. They seem a decent combination of balance and price, so if I mess them up enough, I can replace them after a few years.

I thought the same thing..... $240 to fix a pair of $300 shoes. I'm sure they will last quite a while, the cobbler did a fine job rebuilding them.

You shouldn't have to replace a dress shoe. You simply resole it (and it shouldn't be that often) if it's not a glued together piece of crap.

AE is an entry level quality shoe that can be had for around $250-300 (cheaper if you want a loafer) at sale time and will last you forever.

I would imagine finding a cobbler is becoming more and more challenging as the years go on.

I live in a community of 4,000 or so and we have 1.

I'm having a hard time finding someone to restring a baseball glove for my son. City Shoe Service in Houma use to do it but they closed down.

You can also get them for much cheaper than their retail price.

I just got some Cole Haan British Tan Wing Tip Oxfords for 64 bucks. Much better than 300.

I challenge you to find a profession with a stronger name than cobbler.

I really like my zero grands. The soles are completely different than the ones in the video. Had a Black Friday sale and they were 50% off.

I like the badlands. Very comfortable rubber sole and can wear with nice pants although not w a suit.

Strands are great w suits and jeans.

Cobbler charges twice what Cole Haan does. I don’t disagree that Ole Haan’s are crap (I used to buy them a lot and eventually switched to much longer lasting brands), but for $240 you can get two pair of Coles and the life of the two will be essentially the same.

They are better shoes after he gets through with them and will probably last as long as a $250 shoe would instead of the CH's as originally made.

Steve also uses premium materials. He usually replaces AE soles with JR Soles, which are better, for example.

That's the ones I had that soles split on. Maybe they fixed it but mine lasted 6 months tops.
