Yeah that makes a difference. I have shoes that are 10+ years old and still look brand new but I rotate probably 20 pair.

he first three minutes of the youtube video show why Cole-Haan shoes are crap. This cobbler does some really good work by the way. Has a pair of my shoes right now.

didn't watch it but Cole Haan used to be good shoes. Nike owns them now and they are absolute garbage since.

How often do you wear them per week?

Probably 3 days a week on average.

My office is business casual. I have a pair of shoes that I wear with a suit but my brown/black shoes get worn 2.5 days per week on average. I toss them and buy new ones when they look crappy. I have Lucchese boots that are 15 years old though.

shite mine never last that long. I have a pair of Frye shoes that were about $275 and maybe 1.5 yrs old. I noticed this morning that they look about ready for the trash.

Probably accurate. I kick them off like tennis shoes in the evening.

Sounds like I need to get into an AE loafer. Are they comfortable day 1?

I've been wearing allen edmonds since the late eighties and they still look good. I've had to get them shined a few times but they are holding up better than me.

Why would you buy "to" pair?

You don’t shine them everyday before work or leisure? Zero discipline.

I’ve had a pair I still wear occasionally that I’ve had for 15 years. Use to be great for walking home drunk from Fred’s 10 miles back in college

Should be stripping them and then polishing them once a week. Rookie.

AE quality has been in a nosedive for 5+ years, I think. It's still probably the best American traditional style shoe for business in the 150-300 dollar range, but the workmanship is largely gone.

AE still has a few good loafers, but a lot of junk too. I have one of the traveler collection (forget what it's called) loafers that someone else referenced, but the leather is closer to what CH uses (probably because it's lighter) and the styles are questionable at best. For some reason I don't think AE even makes a tan/medium brown beefroll penny anymore, which I just don't get.

Rancourt is a much better shoemaker these days at some similar price points, but overall despite being higher quality, it's pretty limited to business casual.
