You mean designed for Germans or Europeans. Most are engineered in Warren

As someone who drives rental cars every week, Buick's are most definitely rebranded Chevy's. Your point still stands, though.

But what about those chevy commercials that say chevy is number 1 in JD Power (whoever the frick he is) reliability for like, a million years in a row. Apparently ole JD and Consumer Reports are using different standards.

Those are bought awards sold to the highest bidder.

Not many people are going to abuse a Lexus like they will a Silverado. You can say that for most of this list. Not many work vehicles in there. Or what about pulling trailers, doing work, gravel and mud roads, straining the engine pulling loads up hills. It's not apples to apples. Ford sells a million trucks, 200,000 get abused to shite. Not that way with Lexus, Buick, Audi, whoever....

Piss poor management and Japan has a different business midweek than being beholden to shareholders. But simpleton will blame the unions.

They also sell a lot more vehicles here than they do oversees, so they're bound to have more instances of vehicles breaking down.

Not sure which company you're referring to but Toyota has had the most worldwide sales for many years in a row.

Something to keep in mind about "reliability' reports is those ratings nowadays include a category such as consumers ability to use feature. Ford had a high reliability one year then the next year when that category was incorporated, dropped big time due to Sync. FYI Ford was tied with Honda and Subaru for long term reliability while trailing Toyota.

One other thing to remember and it's also why a list like the OP has changes often is because it's done by surveys which do have a degree of unreliableness associated with them.

I don't either, but I still happily drive a Toyota.

American car companies aren't on these lists

This list is based on consumers opinions about reliability. not actual reliability. Its even rating brands on reliability that these consumers have never owned or even driven.

I'm saying we have way more domestic vehicles sold in the US, so more people have domestics that break down. It usually comes down to how well you take care of the vehicle.

How else can you explain why someone would buy a Chevy Impala over a Honda Accord? Or a Dodge Dart over a Corolla or Civic? Or a Chevy Traverse over a CRV? God damn, I could go on forever. The Big 3 make some truly awful vehicles.

EVERY auto company makes shite cars.

The difference is they don't import their shitboxes to the States.

Foreign companies tend to send their best stuff over here. For example, Mercedes and BMW only sell their luxury trims in the US while in Germany they are essentially Ford/Lincoln.

Same goes for the Japanese car makers. Honda and Nissan aren't going to bring their shittacular Kei cars to the US b/c they would hurt brand perception.

Also, a lot of those reliability stats are tough to take seriously b/c something like the stereo being a pain in the arse to pair with your bluetooth is considered a reliability issue.

Of course, everyone knows that 75% of surveys have 30% or higher unreliability factors.

It's actually neither of those things at the moment, nor is it American unions. Japanese firms have had some of the same issues that have plagued American firms (Nissan before Ghosn got there, for starters).

It's part strategic positioning, part marketing, and part consolidation.

Audi being that high is suspect.
My mom's A6 had tons if problems. And the top had to be changed out twice in five years.
My uncle's A7 has been in for maintenance a good bit as well.

Toyota is more interested in making the engine last with minimal problems.
Chevy/Ford is more interested in you being able to talk to your car and it do what you asked, and it talk back to you, and warn you of this and warn you of that, and hey look at this cool compartment here, and look how awesome this is on the dash, and check out what this window can do.
and then Toyota says "it's a fricking car sirry american, engine no work, who care what cool iphone thingy screen do. We make car last you long time."

He is specifically talking about the c/k1500 series of trucks.
They are very reliable.
It's the newer designs that focus on evidence that have caused reliability issues.
The old push rod 350s regularly got 300,000 miles before rebuild. That of course put them up their in reliably, then the newer ls engines also allowed to be very reliable, while the ford 5.4 has turned out problematic in comparison.
