re: Why aren’t cameras in classrooms yet?

knowing how the schools (at least the one I work at) actually use the cameras it wouldnt be that big of a deal for me. I know the only time they look at them is when theres a need to. It's not like there's someone posted up 24/7 flipping through all the cameras making sure there's no shenanigans. As a male teacher I would honestly enjoy having the extra security from being "me too'd" by some crazy kid. I keep my door open anytime im in the room now for that reason.

Its my opinion dickhead. Whats the privacy expectation on govt property when kids are involved? Im simply saying for ME it would be a non issue. Id much rather certain delinquent kids know theyre being constantly monitored than whatever nuisance it would be for me personally

I don't have a key to my own classroom because it went missing over the summer. I'm not the only one either. The parish says it's too expensive to get the locks changed. Yet, at every safety meeting we have about potential shootings and what not, they always say to make sure your door is locked to slow the intruder down, but I can't even lock my doors at all. So yea, no way in hell schools would pay to install cameras when they don't even really give a shite about the safety of the kids.

probably cause of the massive under-funding problem seen in our school systems...
Nope. Louisiana spends around $3-5k more per student each year than Houston and has absolutely nothing to show for it except for shite school, shite students, high teacher turnover, and a massively-bloated administrative staff.
It's all about spending and culture, not funding.

As a high school science teacher who has cameras in the classroom, it fricking sucks. Means I can’t just watch videos whenever I want. Hell every Monday I’m trying to watch hudl with my players and I’m worried somebody might catch me

You are an idiot if you think human beings can follow this rule. You might as well throw our constitution in the garbage, and we can take notes from China on how to govern society.

As if teachers jobs aren’t hard enough now they’ll have to deal with parents monitoring their every minute? Frick that
WAIT WAIT WAIT
Cops use cameras for their every move?! What's the difference?
Posted on 4/5/19 at 10:17 am to jac1280
If i was a teacher, like if i was a cop, I’d want cameras to cover my arse
So no kid can acuse a teacher of some BS, bullies are caught on tape, you have proof of the kid playing on his phone the whole class and that’s why they’re failing, etc

I guess it would only be legal in states that allow recording if one party says it ok.
Is that the reason there aren't cameras in banks, department stores, casinos, gas stations, school zones, telephone poles...

Government should just put them in our houses while they’re at
Yep. This is some 1984 level thinking. Let's get the children used to living in front of a camera in the classrooms then move to homes.
I am sure the government is already collecting data from laptops, cellphones, Amazon Echos, Facebook Portal, etc that our in our homes.
1984 should be required reading.

because they dont want any evidence of their liberal indoctrination and brainwashing practices

I agree. I put a Swivl (camera) in my class which was solely to improve my teaching. The kids complained and the principal made me remove it. She said it violated their privacy. Specifically the Sped kids. I’m actually Sped certified, and knew this to not be true. I also asked her how it was different than the hall and campus cameras.
She sucked. I no longer teach in Caddo and I am so much happier.

I’m sure it has already been mentioned, but filming minors is kinda frowned upon.

Actually, most wouldn’t care. As they are oblivious and don’t consider it brainwashing.
But that’s honestly very little of the classrooms. While there are teachers like that, the vast majority of the teachers in Bossier are pretty right wing.
In Caddo I felt like a Trump supporter and in Bossier I feel like a San Francisco loon.

You know for such a right leaning board, some of you sure have some interesting ideas on living in a surveillance state.
Posted on 4/5/19 at 12:57 pm to jac1280
Teachers Unions don't want them. They don't want others to see what really goes on.

Good god the level of hyperbole and paranoia in this thread. Its a govt facility with an obligation to protect children. Its probably wise for the issue of liability alone. Every daycare on the planet uses them now
Why is the $11/hr daycare worker tending to a dozen newborns at a time disregarded with all this outrage about surveillance. But no lets not monitor a bunch of kids with the abilty to show up high and beat the shite out of each other or their teacher
