Metaphorically speaking friend.

I do most of the yard work, almost all of the house work and work full time and a part time job.

I’m a little ocd and like things neater and tidier than my family, so I try not to impose my own standards on them and just find it easier to do it myself.

So when I do sit down- I immediately think of something else I wanted to get clean/tidy or whatever.

I don’t mind when my ppl are relaxing and I’m tinkering though. Although it does drive them crazy that I cannot sit still

"can’t speak for all women- but this is me to a T.

If I sit down- I immediately think of other crap I need to get done at home.

And I feel like a failure if I’m not pulling my weight at home."

Tbh, this is also me as a guy. Lol. I can be sitting down and completely relaxed and then start feeling guilty for not being more productive. I'll walk around the house and yard looking for anything that needs some attention. ?????

Hiring a housecleaner was one of the greatest investments I made with my disposable income.

I can keep a clean home, but it's nice to have someone come in and just do it all at once. Feels like I can relax for a week after.

My wife is like this as well. She is the least lazy person I’ve ever known in my life. She’s also horribly disorganized.

I’ve realized that she needs delegation. If I have a plan for the day, the house, the kids, etc and I execute that plan, her busy body instincts are directed into areas that help her feel more fulfilled. Of course with work, life, and things, I don’t always have that plan ready to go.

We had one for a while. And again- bc of my ocd- I’d clean before she came over and ended up realizing there wasn’t really much she did for us worth the money we paid her- and then it dawned on me that I could take the money we paid her and go to TJ Maxx or or buy new shoes or whatever

Same old answer: deep deep insecurity. Their restlessness is a result of the tangled soul having to justify its existence through productivity.

I’m a lot more physically active than my wife. But she surprised me this morning. She woke up early and did some gardening.

ETA : with that said she works full time during the week. I don’t want to imply that she is lazy. Far from it.

My wife can relax and has to deal with me never sitting still.

This thread is almost relevant to my life.

I can probably count on 2 hands the number of times my wife has sat and watched a movie just for pure entertainment in 30 yrs.

even when she watches a show (streamed) she will be working out.

When rentals were a thing, she never ever watched the one we got and she picked out. just couldn't sit and watch it.

My wife is like that, too. We just got home from a six hour trip. I’m chilling and she is bustling about.

I disagree that little gets done, though. When my girl is busy stuff is happening.

My favorite is me taking my kid somewhere so my wife can get a break, her choosing to spend hours finding little projects to do, then complaining that she never gets a break

FIFY. Many of them will make lists 40 pages long for baby showers of to-dos, but don't know what they're doing after school pickup tomorrow, until they're in the school pickup line.

It's societally acceptable just to accept that men clean up the mess and deal with the anxiety. My ex-MIL sent her husband to the grocery FIVE times on a single Thanksgiving day. She's been cooking the same shite for 25 years. They're in their 70s, and he's the definition of learned helplessness.

And yes, ladies, men do dumb shite too, but it infects less of our lives than the anxiety and insecurity do for the XX side of the house.

ETA: both sexes have a problem with commitment (are you coming to the party in two weeks or not? Is Jaydin going to play outfield on Saturday or not?) "Keeping options open" spins the female mind into a hellscape of weighing social benefits/negatives until the last minute. F that. If I say we're taking a trip in 2026, I'm buying tickets next week.
