I personally know someone like that. He came from Somalia, and is one of the hardest workers I've ever met. After ten years here he is now an RN, speaks English just great, and is studying to be a nurse anestheologist.
I'm fine with someone like that. Most of them don't do as well as he did but they work like hell and can be relied on to get my order right. That hardly ever happens in BR.
Bring 'em on. And no, the crime rate is no higher than among lower-class Americans.

I'd contend that the people who leave shitholes are the best and brightest from that region. They obviously possess a level of industriousness and drive that helped them rise above the circumstance they were born in.

This got me curious about what the actual stats are so I did some googling. Apparently, as of 2012, Nigerian Americans had the highest education - attainment level of all the groups in the US. Looks like they've dropped behind the Indians more recently however.

One of my favorite chemistry professors was born in Africa and he was brilliant and an awesome professor. When kids who didn’t study bitched about how hard the test was he would tell them stories about surviving civil war in Africa and call them spoiled and lazy in his heavy accent. It was always entertaining
