It's weird. Almost like they planned to place their universities where an enormous proportion of the state's population could easily access them.

Nuh uh. My colleges win using the prominence + number + geography quotient.

Tulane is full of Jewish chicks who couldn't get into Brandeis (also in Boston) and Loyola is a franchise school. I mean, I could have included Strayer I guess.....

I'm aware, genius. However it is a city subway stop.

I went to Penn. I've spent time with my friends at Georgetown and UVA grad schools, as well as BU, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia etc etc

Some people have actual life experiences

Charlottesville is about a 2 and a half hour drive from DC. UVA is actually close to VCU in Richmond and James Madison in Harrisonburg.

Look at population density in Oregon.

Look at the I-5 corridor.

Clemson is in the extreme SW corner of SC

In the case of Clemson, the land was donated to the state for the purpose of a college.

Edit: and you meant to say NW corner of SC.

University of Houston and TSU are both in the fifth ward and only a few miles away from Rice.

College of Charleston and Charleston Southern are both in Charleston.

Prairie View A&M is close to Texas A&M and atm-lite (Blinn)

Yes, but SC is private - OP specifically stated state schools.

UCLA, CSUN, CSLA, CSLB, UC Irvine all within 50 miles. Take out UCI and all within 20 an all public.

There's also 10 million people in LA county. Actually not that many schools for that population.

That area of the country is so beautiful. I love driving west from Corvallis to Newport and all those towns on the Oregon coast.

^^For sure! I grew up on the SW coast of OR and went to OSU for 2 years. I made the trip from Corvallis to Newport many times. OTOH, nearly the entire state is beautiful, even eastern OR, a lot of which is high desert country.
