Why are they clearing the swamp at approximately mile marker 213 bonnet carrie spillway

On interstate 10, south side. Not far from interstate 55 split on opposite side. A huge swath of swamp has been cleared. A new spillway?

It only took two LaPlace storm surge events in 10 years for the geniuses to realize after 100 years that the west side of the lake might be susceptible to storm surge.

Yes, and also exacerbated by the other recently completed levee projects.

When you build up the sides of a bowl on 4/5 of the rim, that final 1/5 gets lots more water.
