Because our govt service people are idiots from and because the NHC was horrible on Marco
They had Twitter mets and storm chasers calling for it to disappear 2 days ago

And the media wanted to hype the 2 storms in gulf bs

Thanks for the correction. Typically the diocese has followed EBR. Bad assumption on my part.

When I was a kid in the early 90s it took a fricking act of Congress to get off of school.

It's fricking sunny as hell out there. Actually hurts my eyes. Very uncomfortable.

I might can see why schools are closed today because the weathermen blew it again BUT why close schools for the entire week?

Why not just make decisions day by day? There is absolutely no reason kids, not in coastal parishes, can't go to school tomorrow and Wednesday then just wait and see for Thursday and Friday.

Because people feel absolutely enticed to make powerful decisions early to show they care and for the sake of action

With modern day communication, there is no need to cancel school before Sunday at 5pm

It’s not just hurricanes either. We cancel school if the weather gets below 32 degrees

Honestly, Marco was at Hurricane strength yesterday and the forecasts looked rough. What a difference 12 hours makes. Dry air hit it and knocked Marco's dick in the dirt. School districts have to make decisions off of forecasts. They can't help that the forecasts changed drastically this morning.

Unless there’s an evacuation, they can wait until the early morning to call it off

Plus I think it makes it easier for parents to plan to do something with their kids when you know exactly what days they’ll be off. Not having to scramble Tuesday morning to find a sitter when school was cancelled at 6:45 that morning.

Bc every media had the storm making a direct hit on Nola. Be mad at media, not schools.

For those of us that remember Ivan - we waited until the last minute to close things and evacuate and it was a mess. The interstates were clogged. Luckily Ivan turned East, but since that storm we have been much more cautious.

If parents don't make plans knowing a storm is coming and school could be cancelled, that's on them, not the schools. The precedent being set makes parents expect a 4-day notification on a school closure and they bitch if they have less than 2 days.
