Why are some gas pump nozzles more sensitive to position when on fill mode

Prop the handle wide open and on some of them they have to be positioned just so to avoid clicking off. And even then it is dicey.

Some kind of pressure disc setting?

Call and ask the agriculture commissioner’s office.

No idea but I don’t think there is anything more disgusting than the handle of a gas pump nozzle.

I hate this. my GMC truck does this every time, but ive never had problems with other cars so I think its more the vehicle than the pump. Must get a lot of splash back or something. Very annoying.

Yep. Wife’s GMC Yukon does the same thing.
Clicks off when you set the handle. You dang near have to have the tip of the gas nozzle at the top of the fill hole for it to stay

My nozzle is usually sensitive right after using it.

I think it has more to do with the vehicle vs the pump. My piece of shite F150 had a problem with it. Now that I’ve upgraded to a Tundra I don’t have a problem.

But if you do, you're not going to get air in and it will cause it to trip.

ditto, I can't just put the nozzle in and walk off....I have to stay there until it gets past about half full.

does it on my silverado as well - i hold pump handle down after it trips for a few seconds - was told it lets air out of hose and stops it from happening...works after two or three times it trips

The OP asked why some pumps are more sensitive. Not about what your truck does.

I've run into a couple pumps that were so bad I only got $5 and went to a different one that worked fine. Obviously not a problem with the truck.

What is it on the pump that causes this?

Huh, looks like this is a thing with GMC trucks. Ever since I got mine it's been like that. I've found that if I have less than a quarter tank is when it happens the most, fill it to half way and then it's fine.
