They serve a purpose and are also a uniform.
My wife (no pics) is a nurse in management and is required to wear them.
I guess she could get dressed, drive to work, change into them, change again before leaving, and then come home.... but why the frick would she want to have to do that and have twice as much laundry for the week?
She gets up, puts on the clothes she is required to work in, and goes to work. Like alot of people do.
It isn't that complicated.

I’ve never seen a doctor in scrubs (outside of surgery). It’s usually a sales rep or a dentist.

just always thought that the reason for wearing scrubs (bodily fluid) is the fundamental reason why you wouldn’t be wearing them out and about, i.e., you have bodily fluids on your scubs.
Not everyone wearing scrubs is in contact with bodily fluids. I sit at a desk all day so if I need to run errands after work I sure as hell ain’t going home first to change.
Also….when I was at the bedside I would wear a plastic gown over my scrubs and gloves if I thought I might actually get bodily fluids on me. You are supposed to do that. Part of standard precautions.

Used to see a broad that wore much nicer scrubs than the typical nurse I've come across. I think they were Carhartt.
Much more form fitting than normal.

But now you can get business clothes and business casual clothes that are just as comfortable I’m in a suit more days than not. It’s hot as frick in a suit right now.
Of course it is, but that’s because you have on multiple additional layers then a scrub shirt. But not a pair of slacks and a shirt like a polo…something equivalent to a scrub shirt.
In regards to the post above, a lot of business casual pants either have elastic built in or have fabric that stretches a lot similar to an elastic waist band.
My point is that the ‘uniform’ could be improved upon for the majority of users not around bodily fluids. I was trying to figure out if there was a reason they still wear them.
Let’s take pilots for example, they don’t wear flight suits flying a commercial jet like a fighter pilot does.

Flight suits worn by military air crew have a function other than appearance. They are fire retardant, they don’t have belts/belt loops, and other features that could hang on projections in the cockpit in the event of a emergency egress, or ejection.

I work in a plant and wear scrubs just about every day right now. It’s pretty great. Working nights 6-12s. Makes getting up very easy. Catch a shower, and pick the next set in the stack.
I have the Dickies brand. Pretty comfortable.

During Covid, some hospitals had their non surgical doctors go from khakis/button down shirts to scrubs. The idea was that you can wash them in washing machine in hot water, no need for dry cleaning/ironing etc.

This. People with zero clinical experience or patient contact. Makes it easier for them to gain access in healthcare settings.

When you get home from work, do you keep your business casuals on because they're so comfortable? Or do you change into real comfort clothes?

My wife (no pics) wears them on surgery days and gets dressed up in clinic days. She has to change into a new set before going to surgery so it makes it easier to switch out scrubs and just wear the new set home after cases.

Loose fitting clothing. My neighbor is a medical sales person, and he wears them home and mows his yard in them.

They love their crocs.
