Why are scrubs still worn so much?

Do they actually serve a purpose? My understanding is they were meant to be worn only on site at the hospital and changed out of? Now everyone has custom scrubs, they where them home, out to eat at lunch, etc.?

Is it purely for looks? I guess your family physician wearing wranglers to ask you to turn to the left and cough has bad possible optics? Or am I completely missing something?

I’ve never seen a doctor in scrubs (outside of surgery). It’s usually a sales rep or a dentist.

If someone is going into an operating room, then yeah they should get a fresh pair (though they probably don't). But a lot of people (physician, nurses, and such) work in clinic settings where blood is involved and so it makes sense to wear scrubs for that stuff.

Maybe all the people you see out at lunch just came from work. Just a theory though

Do you even strut through Whole Foods on a Friday night rocking scrubs and a stethoscope?

Call me the panty dropper.

Same reason gym shorts, t-shirts, sweatpants, hoodies, tennis shoes, and slides are still worn so much. They are incredibly comfortable and easy.

I have a 25 year old pair of scrub pants I took from the hospital my mom worked at back then. I sleep in them. They are so worn and thin it's like being naked. Love em.

This doesn't really help with your inquiry.

Because how are not nurses going to catch up on the prestige that nurses have garnered over the past two years?

Walking in public with scrubs used to get you a standing ovation on your way back to your job in the billing department. People are just chasing that high again.

My sons neurologist wears scrubs, but usually outside of hospitalists and surgeons I don't see doctors wearing scrubs.

I don't know why so many jobs require scrubs, it doesn't make sense. I hate wearing them and I especially hate wearing the surgical scrubs the hospital provides, they are one step up to the disposable scrubs though.

It’s designed to be easily disposable if you get bodily fluids on it. If you’re not in a specialty where body fluids are splashed everywhere, the last time a doc wears scrubs is in medical school during surgical rotations.

Maybe people where them because they are comfortable?

Only those working in certain areas(ex the operating room, burn units) are actually issued hospital scrubs that they change out of before leaving work.

The rest of us have to buy our own scrubs that we wear to/from work.

Basically like wearing pajamas all day

I've never worn scrubs but I'm guessing that's why
