Because if you take away these low skill jobs all they have left is shooting at each other.

There was once a time when the customer loaded the groceries on the conveyor belt, someone scanned the items, then they had someone bagging the groceries and loading them into the buggy. When the clerk scanned the last item handed it to the bagger, I was paying for my stuff. As soon as I was finished paying the bagger is putting the last bag in the buggy. It was a great system. It was team work. Now if you don’t use self checkout the person scanning is also the person bagging. If I’m using the kiosk I’m doing all three. (Don’t mind it in some cases).

We went from chic fil a drive thru to McDonald’s drive thru. Backwards.

As an available option? I'm not. More choices is always awesome.

As MY only available option because they either close all of the regular registers or because they refuse to man them to save money and force me to work there? frick that.

I personally don't like using them and would prefer to have a person that works there be responsible for checking me out. It's part of the cost that's traditionally been built into everything. So...either keep doing that or give me a discount equal to the cost savings of me allowing you to not have an employee do that job.

FWIW I'm strongly against old people infront of me trying to use self check out ot kiosks.

Not long ago I was in a taco bell and they were swamped telling everyone to use kiosk.... some trying to be hardass, probably q-anon mf walked in and loudly shouted...I DONT WORK FOR TACO BELL then stormed out.... everyone had a pretty good chuckle, but I'm sure he felt like a badass for the day

They don't as far as I know. Checking out at Costco is a HUGE clusterfrick.

The three different ones I’ve been to are not that bad. It’s like chik fil a. Yea the lines are insano but they move people FAST.

There can be 10 people in front of me and I’m still getting out of there in 5-10 mins.

I love self checkout

I don't love scouring the store to find someone to clear the register when buying alcohol or cold medicine for my wife or kid

Self check out sucks if you have a buggy full of groceries, there is no room unless you get another buggy. If you make a mistake you have to wait until someone shows up to fix it.

I do like apps and kiosk in restaurants because the idiots taking your order screws it up more times than not.

I was grocery shopping one night and got to the checkout and there were no cashiers. I asked the girl at the self check out could someone check me out. She said everyone was busy. I told her they'll be even busier putting this buggy full of groceries back on the shelves and walked out.

Well, there used to be a thing called the express lane for people like you who only had a few things.

As for the self checkout cutting jobs, you haven't looked around in the store, have you?

The cashiers may be fewer but they are hiring more people to fill online orders. I always see four or five employees walking around with carts at Kroger when I am in there. IT evens out.

Looks like all the "complaints" about self checkouts here are by people who are too incompetent to use them.

"I can't manage fitting all my fruit on the scale" or "i don't know the code to bananas and why should i have to"... "i have to wait for an employee to approve my alcohol purchase"... "cashiers standing there watching me work". Those are all self inflicted, or lazy, or i guess jealous? Weird.

Get over it...

I agree, full size full service checkouts are good for large volume purchases and do have a place. I've never been to a store where those types of purchases would happen and they didn't have full service. Go to those checkouts if you can't handle the speed and mind straining nature of self checkout.

Full service is way faster at my HEB. The self checkout is constantly packed with retards going slow as frick whereas the full service has people who know what they are doing and they get you in and out quick.

but that's not a flaw of self service, it's a flaw of humanity. people are generally stupid. And we all hate waiting on stupid people to do things.

my goal when shopping is to get out as fast as possible, sounds like yours too. So of course if self check out is packed with tards and full services is clear i'm going full service.

I see most people use self service.

And if it takes a real 15 minutes to get order taken at McDonalds he has a legit bitch.

This is an epic day of bitching

I only have an issue with this when morons can't figure out the self checkout.

Back when there was Sav A Center, they had self checkout, and it was awesome. Then Rouses bought them, got rid of the self checkout lanes, and went on to hire the slowest fricking cashiers on the planet. I try to avoid Rouses whenever I can.

what is the difference in telling someone your order or typing your order? Neither require labor.

Because I'm doing the job of a clerk.

Super One used to give discounts and coupons if you bagged your own groceries. Now they expect us to do it for free.

frick that.

I will gladly do self checkout but don’t expect me to show you a receipt for stuff that belongs to me. Regardless if I am still in the store or not. Once I pay for it, it belongs me and I am not obligated to prove anything to you.
