Only issue with self checkout to me is when I waste my damn time on it and have to wait on the worker to come fix the machine or have to leave and go to a normal register because it won’t work correctly.
Kiosk machines are only good for asking customers for a fricking tip for you doing your job.

I hate those goddamn things with a fury.

Aldi is crap-o-la and every halfway decent grocery store that has those things charge as much or more than they always have. Stores aren't passing savings on and everyone knows it, suckers are simply giving them free labor.

The minimum wage person scanning all the fruits and vegetables has 90% of the codes for those items memorized. 2x as fast as shoppers looking up their own produce by name from an alphabetical menu.

The weigh platform adjacent to them isn't big enough for the contents of half a cart. "Item removed from the bagging area...Please wait for assistance...item removed from the bagging area..."

I'm squarely middle aged. Change that is improvement is fine, change that inconveniences me can get fricked. Self checkout stores with zero or only one conventional register open can get fricked.

I agree. But I don’t like them if I have a full cart, simply because they don’t have enough space to bag all your groceries

My problem is the people working at these places pushing kiosk, app and self checkout ordering can’t support the platforms adequately. Couple of examples. Chick Fila we use the app every damn time yet we get to,the restaurant sit at our table and 4 people that walked in after us have their food before we do. Self checkout, I have a six pack of beer and 5 other items, yet the person running the self checkout system is MIA. Kiosk ordering, at Panera Imise the kiosk but have to wait in regular line to get my GD drink cup. What’s the point of using the kiosk? Same shite happens at Mcdonald’s, and other fast food places. I’m down for using the tech but at the end of the day it’s only as good as,the staff that supports it.

Smaller number of items and self is best, but if it’s a big haul, self fricking sucks.

Self-checkout is fine if I'm just getting a couple things and the store isn't busy.

If I'm doing real grocery shopping, it's a pain in the arse. Takes more time, more work, usually slower lines, and I don't get a discount.

What's the advantage unless you're so awkward that you can't handle exchanging three words with a cashier?

It’s the five or six employees standing behind you doing nothing that bothers most people. I mean what’s the point? Why not have them run a register? And they’re usually assholes if you dare bother them to correct a mistake or ask for any other assistance.

I just hate when the machine at the grocery store tells at me to leave the stuff in the bagging area.

In Rome I went to a self check out that you had to scan your receipt to leave. That was a first.

love self service. I can get in and get out faster than some min wage person scanning my stuff. Plus it potentially saves the store money that is reflected in lower prices. Look at Aldi, nobody works there, cheap AF.

I don’t like the part where major national retailers will have a bunch of self checkouts in some places but not in others. I think that’s racist

I fricking love self checkout. It means I don't have to wait for the idiot behind the counter to finish talking to their friends and complaining about that they have to work all weekend.

I am a fan when it’s an extra option. I don’t love it when it’s the only option as it can cause backups.

What gets me is people who say self checkout takes jobs. It may take a cashier job, but they will still hire them to work another department. Our local Walmart has 10 self checkouts with 2 people working it and normally about 6-8 regular lanes open.
