Is it because the truck represents a version of Americana that people hope still exists?
You're weird.

but pointing out that American trucks from the 1980’s that many people yearn for were lucky to make it to 100k miles before the engines died or they rusted to pieces.

Most of us remember a time after that, but before the overwhelming electronics and complexities, when a $20-30k truck would last 200k miles. For the most part, V8s from the 90s and 00s were bulletproof.

It’s bc we like trucks and now they’re crazy expensive and nobody has confidence in their long term reliability due to turbos and electronics.

I’ll pay extra to NOT have a fricking sunroof or electric tailgate.

don’t see uproarious responses during discussions about the prices of sedans or cashews or airline tickets. But man the online comment sections on new truck articles get charged.

Because middle class workers stretched tight on dollars that benefit from trucks don’t have a great substitute, while they can opt out of cashews?

She its a lot more of a daily pain than flights?

A sub 20K simple truck would crush it.

$20-30k truck

Out of curiosity, have you adjusted that number for inflation to get an equivalent 2025 number?

LINK

$30k in 2000 is the same as $56k+ today

Trucks were a symbol of blue collar working men

They now cost 100 grand.

To be fair, they stopped being that symbol decades ago when trucks became big cars due to improvements in quality/tech that made them more expensive.

Trucks are comfort vehicles used as family transportation now. They weren't when they were actual blue collar machines.

Nothing about modern trucks scream yesteryear Americana

Correct

Hell, just having a crew cab be the default is a new thing. How often do you see legit ole papa trucks with a single cab?

The cheapest truck on the market is the Ford Maverick and it sells exceptionally well.

It's a car with a bed, but yes, that is what 90% of truck drivers need. Something to haul mulch or a dryer.

The market has demanded crew/quad cabs and companies responded.

You can get a Honda Ridgeline for about $40k right now.

Here is one in Alec for $42k

You do a regression on inflation and 20 years ago that's around $27k.

And all the "truck guys" make fun of the Honda Ridgeline on here.

I actually was discussing something related with my teenage daughter this weekend.

When we were teenagers / young adults, many if us drove pickup trucks because they were cheaper than cars. A used Ford Ranger was dirt cheap

Now, trucks cost more than cars.

It's because the generic American male has backed themselves into an ego-driven corner, whereby if they get around in anything other than a truck, they will be seen as not masculine.

Higher truck prices means that they are personally being charged higher prices. God forbid you buy a $30k sedan that gets 40 miles to the gallon, or better yet, shrink your circle of travel, ride a bicycle, and drop 40-50 pounds.

Good grief, another guy equating vehicle choice with masculinity.

Ya'll think about pecker size more than women.

Who said anything about dick size?

Very telling that you equate masculinity with dick size.

Seems like you're the one thinking about cocks here.

Many people want their regular work truck back. Manufacturers have turned them into luxury items.
