Why are most maps of the US giving the Great Lakes and Puget Sound to Canada?

This is the map that is shown most often of the continental United States:
However the actual borders are shown below. This map is very rarely shown.
Is Canada trying to claim our water?

Map is only showing the land, open water is negative space. Which, makes one wonder why they don't punch out a hole for the Great Salt Lake.
Edit to add: Or Lake Okeechobee down in Florida, for that matter.

Just another example of anti Americanism. You see it all the time in academia and cartography circles.

Why do certain lakes get depicted? I understand the Great Lakes, but there are several lakes bigger than the ones depicted on that map.

Blah blah.
You board hall monitors are more annoying than the people you are trying to mock.

Pretty sure those 3 are the 3 largest natural lakes in the United States not apart of the Great Lakes......

You dont want to frick with the Canadian Coast Guard...they are some strict assholes and they hate the fact that US Flagged ships are constantly passing through waters...they have set these strict regulations that now US flagged vessels have to follow if they want to pass through Canadian waters. It's a huge frick you to the US

Pretty much the standard response to any of your posts.

The Treaty of 1908 specified the official "border" in the Great Lakes region. It was painstakingly surveyed and agreed upon

Are you suggesting that Vermillion Bay belongs to Canada too?

Depends on what metric you use to define “largest”. Still a several bigger than Salton Sea that are not depicted.
