Basically, $$$$$
Far, far easier for anyone to grow their own weed in their backyard. in which case the guberment gets nothing. With tobacco, the guberment collects $$$.
If you really want the guberment to piss you off today research
DuPont Vs, Hemp
(although I wouldn't be surprised if that info has been scrubbed from the internets)

Also because big tobacco doesn't have a large enough foothold in weed yet.
Once they have the majority they want, then their lobby will push for legalization

Same argument could be made for alcohol, the answer is clear that is because of history. Alcohol and Tobacco have been around for mass use forever.
I believe they should all be legalized and taxed accordingly.

Had very little to do with racism, actually
The promotion of films like Reefer Madness where black men were raping white women was part of the push to freak people out and make it a Schedule 1. Hearst was part of promoting that narrative.

This country wouldn’t be so lazy and cynical if we all went back to smoking cigarettes.
Tobacco is the best delivery method for nicotine.

Government hasn't found a good way to tax and make money off of it yet. Once tgey do it will be legal.

Long before Reefer Madness (made by a church group iirc) Hearst opposed Marijuana.
Not even because of the drug aspect.
He owned newspapers, paper making companies, and had financial interest in lumber companies. He was HYPER concerned that hemp paper would overtake wood pulp paper in a competitive market.
He used both his newspapers and his government contacts to drive for illegalization. Reefer Madness had very limited viewing upon release, so it's relevance and impact is likely minimal.
Most people who saw it, saw it after re-release when it was considered satire, and used as part of a legalization campaign.
The primary reason weed was made illegal was Hearst and his influence on public opinion, and his friends and cronies in government.

Walk anywhere in Manhattan and you'll quickly realize why many don't want it legal everywhere...

Legalized weed has made New York City (specifically Manhattan) into a smelly pit. It's awful.
And skip the snide remarks, that avoids the issue, the fact is if you want legalized weed do it like it is in Amsterdam, certain area's, bars with great ventilation, etc.
