Because the government does not want you choosing where your son or daughter go to school. They want them in their own brainwashing factories.

Public dollars ran by non elected officials in most cases. EBR school board approves charters but they are governed by a board who may just be on the board to bolster their resume rather than having a true interest in the betterment of students. Pretty sure BRAF wants every public school to be a charter school in EBR eventually.

Honest answer, because the purpose of the public schools is to provide jobs not educate kids. This comes directly from my dad who is retiree of the Louisiana public school system.

Considering the results of some of the publics in BR like Istrouma, Capitol, and the old Lee HS, I’m not sure charters can be much worse.

All three of those were closed right before a state takeover because they had been failing too many years in a row.

The answer to education isn't within the education system, but in larger society. Kids need to be taken out of shitty families more often and if that means we have to open up orphanages then open up a thousand of them. Kids aren't paychecks, as Outkast once said.

What's odd to me is NOLA has a school board but every school in the parish is a charter or private.

Is there anything more socialist than public education? I taught for many years and sat on the board for a charter school as well. I am convinced government needs to get out of education.
But as was mentioned charter schools take away too many resources from traditional public schools. Money, students, active families, etc.

I think you all get traditional public, public charter, private, and parochial confused. Definitely private vs parochial. They are completely different.

I can see both sides of it.

On one hand, charter schools give a better opportunity that the kids might've had in public schools.

On the other, you've got a lot of scam artists starting school for the free money and give zero fricks about education.

That “on the other hand” sounds like most public schools in BR.

Eh, I don't like the idea of these kids being hung out to dry on a promise of a better alternative.
