re: Who’s side you on? Neighbor threatens to sue bar over bubble machine

That's not really the point. The point is should there be a certain level of decorum between neighbors. When a substance you generate leaves the imaginary vertical boundary that surrounds your property are you responsible for it? I think most courts would say yes.

Considering the bar supposedly blows bubbles 24/7, yes he should have known that’s what he was getting into prior to purchasing the property.
If a bar repaints a mural on their walls every week and gets paint on cars parked on the street, is that ok just because “that’s what they do” ?

Why change the scenario completely?
Because objectively there is no difference. Its a neighborhood people live in.

His neighbor didn’t just randomly start blowing bubbles
In my scenario neither does the neighbor

What's the objective difference between a balcony and a yard to this person

If there’s one thing consistent about urbanites, it is their desire to have their European import automobiles and outdoor living spaces repeatedly caked in soap by an effeminate bar owner.
I wouldn’t want that either, so I wouldn’t buy a property across the street from a bar with a bubble machine as a primary feature.

Call EPA. They get that shut down for air pollution.
You’ll have to convince EPA that soap is a pollutant first

So why change the scenario completely then? You changed it to suburbia because everyone is aware of much lower tolerance for this type of thing in suburban settings vs densely populated urban cores that are majority commercial/mixed use, not to mention the specific urban core in this situation is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world.
Should someone who lives in manhattan have the same environmental expectations as someone who lives in river ridge?

I'm on the homeowners side here. Nobody wants their vehicle, balcony furniture, or house constantly being covered in soapy bubble residue that makes everything sticky at a minimum, and I'm sure isn't good for painted surfaces especially with the soap baking into it in the summer heat down here.
I'm guessing that he toured the property in the day time before the bar was open or before they turn on the bubbles and wasn't aware of the nuisance before he bought the place.

Surfactants are a pollutant, albeit more for water than air. .

It’s hilarious so many of you seem to think that doing something wrong for a long enough amount of time allows you a lifetime of that wrongdoing, even in the face of property devaluation for others.
The selfishness within modern American society is a spectacle in and of itself. You have to build your own communities now because people are so inconsiderate of others and their property. It is pretty irrefutable that this guys car is getting covered in soap constantly—for generations these conflicts are resolved with exchange of knowledge and basic decency. Today, a soiboi has been empowered to fight for his right to soap up the city.

C'mon man, it's the French Quarter. What do you expect living in that place? Peace and quiet? A quiet, suburban neighborhood? I get it, he was there first but it's still the Quarter where surprises never end.

If he were more “scared,” he wouldn’t be having to clean bubble residue off his car.

I wonder if public opinion would swing more the other way if it were Joe Schmoe making the compliant and not the VP of Cafe du Monde...

You act like he is complaining about noise. Most bars in the world do not spray soap on their neighbors cars.

I would argue that the selfish one here is the dude who moved into a neighborhood and then demanded changes from the legacy residents to suit his preferences.
