Yeah a Grizzly could take that thing down, but do you think a black bear could?
Who’s talking about black bears? The OP asked about grizzlies

Roger who lives in Alaska and I respect claims they can. I just don’t see it save for does, young bulls, elderly bulls, and injured ones. The moose that Crackling provided I’d take it over a black bear 10 out of 10 times. Look how he towers over that SUV.

The only land animal that could hand a grizzly in a match to the death is an elephant.
The only creature on this continent that Grizzlies have any fear of is humans and that’s because we have the weaponry to compete.

I dont think this is such an easy task for a grizzly as everyone seems to think

I might take a tiger, a rhino, a polar bear, and a hippo over a grizzly. Packs of wolves and pride of lions can take them down too.

Alaskan grizzly averages 4.5 ft and about 900 lbs.
A 4.5 foot bear is maybe 300-350 pounds.

I think the Grizzly (male at least) would usually take down the bull moose, but I think it’s around 7 out of 10. A moose definitely could take down a Grizzly, especially a female Grizzly. I don’t see the argument for the black bear unless the bull moose has been incapacitated to some degree previously. There’s no way a black bear chasing down a moose of that size is going to get a good hit against it and severely risks getting stomped to death if it tries.

A tiger and polar have no chance, that’s not even a discussion.
The rhino would have to gore the bear early to even have a chance, if they miss, it’s game over. The hippo would have a slight advantage in water, but a couple of good swipes on their sides by the Grizzly and it’s a wrap. Their claws are ridiculously long and you don’t realize how powerful their punches/swipes are.
Y’all are also focusing on the raw size and strength of it all and not the animal’s intelligence. Bears are significantly more intelligent that rhinos and hippos. Plus rhinos are herbivores so they have no natural instinct to attack a Grizzly. They are mainly a defensive animal and with their only offense being a charge, if the Grizzly can swipe their legs enough to get them on their sides to expose their neck or belly, it’s over.

I've been up close to both... Got charged by an adolescent moose that was still bigger than any horse I've see. A full grown bull moose would absolutely destroy a grizzly. The moose will not back down especially during mating season.

Grizzly every time. I'm not sure what animal on the planet id take over the griz 1 on 1. They are the largest predators on land.
Wanna read about something really shite your pants scary read up on the short faced bear.
I've never been close to a griz but I have been way closer to a bull moose than I ever want to be again at night taking a piss of all things. Can't believe I didn't soil my skivvies.

Well, there's "does a bear shite in the woods" but then there's "shite like a moose". I'm unsure.....

Read through it a bit more and while the polar bear is much larger and powerful, seems like Grizzlies are far more aggressive and deal with larger prey more than polar bears do. It’s got a good chance, but seems like Grizzlies kill more.
As for the tiger vs Grizzly, Grizzlies are notorious for playing with their food before they eat it (probably along with the hyena the last predator I’d want to be killed by) while tigers are very, very quick killers. Plus bears are omnivores while tigers are strictly carnivores. I’m still taking the tiger (Siberian at least) over the Grizzly.

Both animals hides are way thicker than bears. Hippos weigh 4,000 pounds and rhinos weigh 5,000 pounds. A Grizzly isn’t taking either of them down, especially the hippo which may be the single most aggressive mammal there is. In a thousand battles of a hippo vs a Grizzly, the hippo wins all thousand of them. I don’t see how a Grizzly could possibly take down a hippo.

First of all, a hippo would frick up any bear. The hippo is simply too big, too tough, too aggressive, and too formidable with its huge mouth and teeth.
Second, are we talking just grizzlies or all brown bears? Technically, a grizzly is a subspecies of brown bear that lives in the interior and does not have access to coastal food resources. A brown bear in Yellowstone would be a grizzly. A brown bear snagging salmon in Katmai would just be a brown bear.
Coastal brown bears are much bigger than grizzlies, and Kodiak brown bears are even larger. I don't think there has ever been a 1,000+ lb. grizzly, but coastal brown bears and Kodiaks commonly get that large and much larger.
All that to say, moose can get pretty damn big but if we're talking a fight to the death between a large moose and a large brown bear I would probably take the brown bear.

You didn’t see a damn 1,500 lb moose in Colorado. The biggest one you’ll get in that area top out at 900-1,000 lbs.

Squared up the moose wins Everytime. Only time a Grizz when's the fight is on sneak attack or it is old or baby moose.

I think a prime Cape buffalo bull would take out a grizzly. Once the buff gets in once with his horns, the battle would turn. The grizzly wouldn't attempt to take on a healthy buff in the first place, imo.
And I think once a grizzly saw the sheer size of a big hippo or rhino, he would run like hell.

It was every bit as big as the one Crackling posted. Was right beside my SUV and towered over it by a body height. I immediately thought it’s horns when raised would meet the eye level of an African Elephant. It was by far the most massive animal I’ve ever seen in the wild, and the beta males beside it were impressive in their own rights and well over a thousand pounds themselves. All 3 were the biggest wild animals I’ve ever seen.

Yea I guess when you start bringing up shite like cape Buffalo and elephants it changes. Idk how a single griz could tackle a full grown healthy bull elephant
