I'm pretty trashy but I don't think I could live in a trailer. Too scared they're gonna flip over in a storm. I might consider a manufactured house though.

If I didn't have to live around here for my job and I could purchase a big chunk of land instead of a house, I'd buy that 500 acres in BFE and put a double wide on it in a split second

Lived in one til middle school. My dad worked his arse off to get us out of one and into good schools after having to go to college with supporting a wife and kids. Lots of my family still do live in them. A lot of good people out there live in them. What a completely shitty person you must be to make fun of someone for that.

My wife and I have kicked around the idea of buying acreage and living in a trailer while saving up for a dream home.

As long as it was for the short term, go for it! The problem with trailers is that due to their cheap construction they will turn to shite after a couple of years.

That being said, the one we lived in was 3bd 2ba, had a nice large kitchen and living room. It's no different than living in an apartment.

I met a 40 yr old, working class guy on a plane recently. He lived in a trailer with his wife, child and dogs. He earned a high wage but had to be away from his family for months at a time for work. He socked all he could away, and was on course to retire at age 45. So, yeah, he wasn't embarrassed to admit to living in a trailer at all.

Yeah we'd have to go probably out by Rockwall. Which is a nightmare commute to Dallas.

I bought one in 85.......paid off in 90......got married in 90......

Bought older house in Richland Parish in 95, remodeled.......made about $60k profit in 2000, moved to Belle Chasse and built a 2500 sq ft house......no Katrina damage, and sold for 40% more than we had in it in 2006.

Built in Ascension Parish in 2006, and house is appraised at 30% more than I built for.

We plan to retire soon, sell the house and business, move back to north Louisiana, and either buy an older SMALLER house, or set up a double wide or prefab, on about 30 acres.

frick living in this rat race called Baton Rouge.....we going home to the Promised Land!!!

we watch the tiny house show on TV sometimes. They do all these creative things like a table that folds into a wall a loft that is a bedroom/closet/office... yea it's all impressive and creative...and all of it will get really fricking old after a month

my favorite is the hippie couples that want a cheap forever home they can take anywhere with their two kids Willow and Stormy... Yea...it's gonna be awesome when they are teenagers and they have to share a 4x4 loft separated from your "bedroom" by a sheet.

Don't live in it, but I own one that my grandparents live in. Gets the job done. It is in a location where they want to be so they're happy. Can't ask for much more than that.

My Mom and stepDad socked away several million bucks over their career. They were retired at 55-58, bought 180 acres, built right in the middle, and had cows, horses, ponds, shops, barns......

Then he passed in 2016.......too much for her to keep up. They had a small camp on Caney Lake, and she wanted to live there. She sold their place, and I was helping her on building onto the camp.....she said screw that, I want a double wide on a slab.

She has a small fortune socked away, and lives a very happy content life in her "trailer", on the water with a huge deck and boathouse to enjoy her time on the water.

I know a baw that bought a beautiful piece of land down on Bayou Barataria. He put a trailer on the property and built a huge shed/ barn with the intention of living in the trailer until he built his house. It's been at least 5 years and he still hasn't built the house. He bought a Hatteras Sport Fisherman and docks it in his back yard at a real nice covered boat slip that he built. Last time I asked him when he was going to build the house he said that he has the plans drawn, but he is not sure he wants to build it. He's happy with the way things are.

By the way he's single, no kids, and has a girlfriend that comes from NOLA on the weekends.

I did while I was building my first house, sat close to the build site. My bank account didn't feel any shame about it.

I live in an apartment, which is the city version of a trailer.

Same here. A nice doublewide with a yard would be an improvement.
