There are trailer parks in the upscale areas of California that are over a million dollars each.

I'm renting one for long term travel work. Never stayed in one before this. Except maybe at a friend's house when I was a kid. It's much better than a hotel in almost every way. Better than an apartment too

I don’t live in a trailer, but I wouldn’t mind it if I saved enough money over my current mortgage.

Lived in one once while I was a sophomore in college....it was more of a “mobile breeding factory “ than a “home” because me and my gurl has no money so all we did was frock all the time.

BEST semester ever!!!

Got one set up as my fishing camp on Old River. Best $3500 I spent, but the cover over it was 2K.

I love those camps on old river that are just old trailers that have been jacked up 20 feet up in the air so they survive the annual flood.

I also love the ones that float because they are set on a huge styrofoam bases that just float in place when the water rises. Dang, that is just cajun ingenuity right there

Man I love the work-for-rent idea. I'm a young buck who isn't too keen on staying in one place too long so the idea of being to pick up and go when I want sounds nice. Thanks for the reply!

Ours is a monthly rental. No deposit, no lease and you can pick up and move any time you want, just let them know you are going. Rent covers our lot, elec, water, cable, internet, sawage/garbage pickup, dog park, pool, park, etc. (other places might charge you for your electric or other fees).

What kind of neighbors do you have?

An interesting mix, Our next door neighbor teaches at LSU. The couple across from us are traveling nurses. Another couple is retired and come here around summer for 3-6 months to work. Everyone seems lucratively employed or semi-retired. There are very few kids here although kids are welcome and we have a large park. So it is actually pretty quiet here.

Personality wise, everyone is pretty laid back. No neighborhood drama. We prefer to stay to ourselves but others socialize more and BBQ. People are respectful of each other's property and privacy.

Everyone takes care of their yard and RVs so there are no trashy yards or abandoned cars. It's actually fascinating to see the huge variety of RVs that come in.

Used to live in trailers growing up. It’s pretty common if you are from Louisiana. Honestly, give me a few acres of land and a nice trailer on it and I’m happy.

I admit I was worried about that at first. I was so pleasantly surprised. I thought I might run into trashy people or just a bunch of old retired people.

The most unusual neighbors have been an Amish-type young couple. They were here so the husband and his bro could help in the reconstruction after the flood. There was also couple who were something like PhD scientists types who were working as consultants on some job at the power plant. They worked and travelled all over for job assignments.

You're welcome.I love the work-for-rent idea also. There are so many opportunities out there for those who are interested. Just check out the work/camp listings on the free work/camp websites (never pay for that info).

The people I know are very happy with work-camping. My bf wants to retire early so it is perfect for us. Not many jobs include free rent, electric, water, cable and internet.

You can start off with a used RV for under $10k like I did. It was an impeccable 29 ft 5th wheel.

Then my bf and I got together and we wanted more space. Our friend sold us a 40" 5th wheel with 4 slides and it is perfect size for me, him and our pup.

I don't. Main reasons are depreciating asset, higher electric bills, and safety in bad weather.

I wouldn't care about people laughing if I lived in one.
