Depends on how you look at it. Lenin was the ornery planner and Trotsky the personable organizer. Lenin orchestrated the government takeover that was the October Revolution. Trotsky organized and led the Reds during the Civil War. Both were essential to the Bolsheviks' success.

Neither made it happen, the peasants were very unhappy to begin with.
The wiki page isn't that bad actually.

Both were necessary. Trotsky wasn’t strong enough to be the figurehead. Lenin wasn’t smart enough to run the revolution

The Tsar also did everything wrong pretty much his entire reign; the table was well set for the revolution/Lenin/Trotsky

There's a big difference between the February Revolution, which was mostly caused by a ground swell of popular dissatisfaction with the czarist regime, and the October Revolution, which was a premeditated coup-d-etat planned and organized by the Bolsheviks (who were only one of several socialist parties).
February was the bottom-up revolution. October was top-down.

Read the book "Brotherhood Of Darkness" by Dr Stanley Monteith. Your answer lies within.
