I have always seen and heard the absurdities coming from those around me. Maybe because I listen to what people are saying, not anticipating what they are saying, but what they really say. So I laughed a lot to myself.

I will not forget when a friend of mine in Fifth Grade asked the teacher, "How to you spell bench, you know, b-e-n-c-h?
I burst out laughing. No one else in a class of 25 thought it was funny except for Mr. Crockett. (She was a blonde FWIW).
My late MIL said, totally serious "I never farted until I was 65." Again I laughed.

My first two albums bought as a kid were Steve Martin Wild and Crazy Guy and the Flash Gordon Soundtrack.

I can still remember some of the bits (from Steve not Queen).

My dad, he loved Mad Magazine. I spent *way* too much time reading "Snappy answers to stupid questions," as is obvious by the way I respond to people on this board.

Tits.

This is the answer.
We must all admit that this is the tits.

And I heartily agree.

OP: Consumed comedy from the three TV networks, we had a couple Cosby albums in the house (“NOAH!”….), Jerry Clower albums, but the Dr Demento Radio Show really opened up a whole new world of comedy to me.

It was weekly for maybe two hours on (I think) Sunday night on one of the three potential AOR stations in NOLA. Maybe WRNO?

My dad was a clever soul and had the ability to really deliver a joke. I got the cleverness but not the presentation gene.

Catholic nursery school in the late 60’s. Those nun’s beat us so hard over nothing, you had to have a sense of humor to get by.
