I can't understand how most people just accept that a phone is worth $1K, yet need to replace every 2-3yrs

target demographic of $1,000 phones?

What other options are there really?

I use my phone every single day. Use it for work, for down time, when taking a shite, to follow the in game thread while at the game, to order food, to read email, to pay for things, to listen to music in my car or podcasts while around the house, … the list goes on and on.

And 1k seems to be the price point of a new iPhone, Samsung, or equivalent. If I can do that every four or so years then why not?

They don't charge interest.

Also, sales are very common. If you shop around the major holidays throughout the year, you can typically get these $1,000 phones at a nice discount.

I carry a old school flip phone. I work outside and need something durable that wont shatter like a piece of glass.

the midrange market is booming right now

very few people need the top of the line phones and i'd imagine 99% wouldn't notice going to the $400-500 option

The fact they advertise privacy scares me. They know they have literally everything on you and want to brag that they don’t use it.

All while making a phone that stores (remotely) a digital mapping of your face.

I’d rather pay $5,000 for a phone with actual privacy.

This dumbass who was on the job (not with our company) said he got the new Iphone about 3 or 4 months ago and got it on a payment plan. He said it was only 'so and so a month' like he was bragging about it, then we said for how long? Get this, 24 months to pay off a fricking phone, with interest of at least $400. Plus Iphones are gay as frick.

Swing and a miss.

Suckers.
They were $800 when I bought mine and I paid ATT $250 cash in full up front.

You can get an unlocked iPhone XR for $750. Let's say you use it for 3 years and then sell it on ebay or a buyback program for $200. Actual cost of ownership of the phone itself is $15 per month.

Bingo. I worked for a carrier as my first job out of college. They steered away from contracts because the damn phones cost so much. If you noticed your actual service fees were higher when they locked you in a contract. (Unless you had some old AF grandfathered plan). That was to pay for the phone that they sold you for half the price.

You can be damned sure 97% of these idiots never really think about what they’re holding or how remarkable the tech really is.

Sad.
