Who is the buyer of the Buick Encore?

A very small Buick SUV / CUV with limited utility and what appears to be a wobbly suspension on the road. Who is the target audience and are they actually buying it? China?

If I'm not mistaken, that was one of the first "premium" sub-compact crossovers out there 8-10 years ago. Since then, Mercedes, Volvo, Acura, Lincoln, and even Cadillac have added micro-crossovers to their lineup.
Apparently there are a lot of empty nesters that want these things.

looks like a full sized version of the smart car

Buick makes sturdy cars. That one is pretty small though.

old women on a fixed income that think they're too good for a Ford Fiesta but know their '05 Navigator is "too much car" for them

That rear reminds me of a Pontiac Something.

Rental car agencies.

People on a budget -- we looked at it for fun when we were car shopping for our daughter. It was really super nice although entirely too small for my comfort level.
It had many many nice features and was $16,999. NEW.

Buick commercials are the worst.
"I was actually looking at that Buick."
"I knew that."
"Did ya?"
Hate it.

My wife has one
It's actually a pretty comfortable SUV(if you can call it that) It gets great fuel mileage and is roomy enough for me and her to go on trips.

I think it's designed by Buick's German arm - Opel/Vauxhaul. They are pretty good with compact cars. It handles and rides well.
I get the appeal for people who want a compact vehicle with all wheel traction in the snow belt and possibly want something a little nicer/quieter/more comfortable than a Subuaru or Chevrolet.
The Encore and it's growing list of competitors are just way too small for me.

Enterprise Rent A Car is who buys these things

I rent a lot of cars, but I've never encountered a Buick Encore.
I think the automakers are unloading sedans to the rental agencies and pushing these crossovers to retail customers. Lots of Sonatas, Camrys, Altimas, Fusions, Tauruses etc. I've seen a few of those tiny Fiat-based Jeeps though.
I'd be frustrated if I paid extra for an SUV and they gave me a sub-compact model.

Bought one for my daughter. I was very surprised by the low levels of noise/vibration and smooth ride for a small SUV. I rented one in Denver for a few days and was impressed by its ability in the mountains. Small turbo four cylinder performed well.

Don't call it a SUV baw. Thats a compact crossover. Essentially a Chevy Cruze with higher body

National probably has more than Enterprise. I'm pretty sure I've seen some on the "Emerald Aisle".
