Broadly, yes it does 50m is a large discrepancy and that is good reason to think Obama is more recognizable
People in many countries knew who Trump was before he was ever even the leader of the free world because of his wealth and hotel empire. Oddly enough, it seems the only time people pay attention to anything on twitter these days is when Trump tweets something.

Trump tweets 5x a day and still has 50m less followers than Obama. Barack Obama is far more popular than Donald Trump is & its not even really close. Obama is in the running for 1 overall where Trump is on the next level

Jesus comes in at 2nd.
Nobody knows what Jesus looked like, he is completely unrecognizable. And it isn't the Pope either.
It's obviously Dave. Dave is in sales and asked his boss for a raise, saying he knows everyone and everyone knows him. His boss said that was impossible but Dave insisted. "When we go on that business trip to Los Angeles I'll introduce you to Tom Cruise." The boss chuckles and says "Yeah, sure."
The next week they're in L.A. and Dave says "Let's go meet Tom." They walk up to a mansion and knock on the door. Tom Cruise answers and says "Dave! Haven't seen you in a while, let's have a beer!"
A month later Dave brings up that raise again and the boss replies "That little show looked too good to be true, I'm not buying it." But when they went the next month to DC Dave took him on a tour of the West Wing. The President happened to be on his way to the Situation Room and he said "Dave! Great to see you, let's catch up!"
Finally a couple of months later they're on a trip to Rome. The Pope is scheduled to speak from the balcony and Dave tells his boss "Hey, the Pope knows me too. So do the guards of course so I'm going to go see him." He disappears.
About ten minutes later the Popes walks onto the balcony and Dave is right there with him. The Boss promptly faints.
When Dave gets back he asks his boss what happened. "When you walked out there the guy next to me said 'Who is that guy in the fancy hat standing next to Dave?'"

You could be right, I think Obama is the most recognized person on earth. But trump has been a celebrity for 40 years and had a big TV show. People might not want to follow him on twitter but they know what he looks like.
