Who in their right mind uses AirBnB?

Who, in their right mind would use AirBnB? They are awful. I have recently discovered that more and more apartments and some homes are actually willing to rent much cheaper on a weekly basis. A few of them daily!
And guess what? No hidden fees!
Here’s what makes AirBnB suck. Here is just one of many many endless examples. Found a 1 bedroom 2 bath entire apartment that listed on the main page for $2871 for the 29 days I entered in the timeframe we needed. When you click on the picture to get more details....lo and behold the price for the 29 days is now $3719. Almost one thousand more than what you thought initially!
There’s a cleaning fee for $150. A service fee for $321! For what??? Then an occupancy tax and fees $377! WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!
So let’s see. I could rent my two story 4 bedroom house with 3 baths for just $250 a month! However there is a $800 service fee. A $250 cleaning fee. A $422 occupancy fee. A $150 turning on the light switches fee. $245 flushing the toilet fee. $575 opening the doors to the house fee. And finally a $725 looking out the windows fee. That brings the total to $3417 a month.
I know when you entered your timeframe and the filters it showed up as $250 a month initially but with a few other fees it does go up a little bit. But everything has fees so no biggie. frick AirBnB!!!

I mean you don’t have to use it if you don’t want? That’s the cool thing about free market.. you have options my dude

While this is true they need to include it pre search. Its bullshite if you set a budget but their search doesn't stay in it.

I wouldn’t normally offer this response again, but that really is a lot of anguish.
Yeah, you need someone who understands the hurt. How dare AirBnB continue

The fees are clearly visible on the website before you purchase so I’m not sure where you’re getting these “hidden fees” from.
If the cleaning fee and service fee are too high, find a new place that offers lower prices.

I agree the prices should reflect on initial search.
I'm actually waking up in an Air B-N-B right now. We had a nice time for a quick lille weekend get away. I typically dont use Air BnB but my SIL found it and we staying here with them.
2 times I have found listings on Homeaway or VRBO that were owned by an individual and not a property management group. I emailed them directly and asked if we could set up a deal outside of the website and they did. I paid cash straight to the owner for a reduced rate and left cash (less than what's on VRBO for that listing) for the cleaning fee. Basically it saved us me from having to pay the taxes.

I don't know we haven't had that problem but don't use it that often. Going to South Carolina from Dec 17th-21st and rented a place on Lake Wylie at a good price for 4 nights. Simple and easy.
The service fees and cleaning fees can really add up. In fact the cleaning fees set by the owner can make a 2 night stay jump 50%.
This is the free market. Use something else and don't bother with them. We always use multiple searches/sources when looking to rent.

The cleaning fees do get you. Taxes are what they are in an area as well. Kne way to look at it ks that a hotel doesn't have a kitchen and may have resort fees. You can save money by not going out for every meal.

Used Airbnb my entire honeymoon and have zero regrets.

A couple of friends of mine needed an AirBnB for 2 months down in Atl over the summer. After finding a place they communicated through AirBnB messaging and got each others phone number and ended up paying them outside of AirBnB and cut out all of those other fees.

The Cleaning and service fees are just part of the deal. You asked what the service fee is for, it is for creating the platform that connects you with an owner.
The one thing I have found to be a bullshite move by some AIr BnB hosts is when they rent giant houses that sleep 20 and then Nickel and dime you by charging $20/nt extra for each headcount over 4 people.

Well let’s promote that for all things in life I guess? Who needs taxes anyway.

Why? Where were y’all that it was a better option than a hotel?
I’m not finding fault, I’m just curious cause I never used the service.

Italy, way lower rate than any of the hotels that gouge tourists.

I found this to be true on the West Coast, from San Diego to Seattle.
I can stay in West Seattle near Alki Beach, have the entire lower floor of a house available, complete with projection screen TV and a view of the water. That was way cheaper than a nice hotel in town.
