My brother, an ex SEAL sniper, was doing the same from a big oil company building downtown
So I have to assume he was at the former One Shell Square on Poydras. What exactly was he doing on the top of a 33 story building?
I'm not doubting you, just curious.

So in reading this thread as someone not from LA, much less New Orleans....
I learned that humans can't agree on what happened and why in many instances - eg Superdome (horrible or not so bad?), levees (failed, pumps not turned on, blown up).
and this is 19yrs after a modern disaster....
Just glad I wasn't there for sure....

I’m was a manager at a Red Cross shelter during Katrina.
The government, both state and federal, got a black eye after Katrina, but I’m not sure any had such an absolute destruction of appearance and image as The Red Cross, at least regionally.

It was a crazy time, I had just gotten married 5 weeks prior. Our house survived with minimal damage, my in laws place in Slidell was completely flooded, my sister in laws rental in Gentilly completely flooded, my mom’s house in Metairie flooded. So for nearly a month everyone stayed with us. My sister in law didn’t leave for 6 months. It wes a fairly stressful start lol
Whenever you and your wife hit a rough patch, think back to the beginning of your marriage and realize if you can make it through that, you can make it through anything.

Nah, a devastating natural disaster in a major population center is not a major event. Most likely any footage depicting anything other than a little wind and rain is fake news put forth by the ChiComs to demoralize Americans....
It was as bad as advertised and not just in New Orleans....the entire area was severely impacted. It did seem to make a difference though....responses to similar events seem better organized now.

From what I recall they didn’t improve their image a whole lot based on some actions after the 2016 major floods in the Natim Rouge area.

Leaving was never a consideration for most people. No one in my family had ever evacuated for a storm. People who were old enough to have lived through Betsy didn't leave.
And the truth is, had the floodwalls not failed, everyone who stayed would have been fine aside from the inconvenience of a prolonged power outage.

When I hear "Katrina", three things come to mind:
1. Water
2. Lootie
3. Chocolate City
The only thing that comes to mind for me is the smell of Katrina Fridge.

Should it matter? No, but it did.
My post has evidence that Katrina was classified as a Cat. 3 at the time of its main landfall by NHC. NHC’s forecast was very good. There’s nothing else that NHC could have said that would have made any difference with regards to the levees and the levee failures.
I get what you’re saying with regard to the blame game, but NHC couldn’t have done anything else. They forecasted a catastrophic hurricane with a massive storm surge and that’s what came. Whether it was a high end Cat. 3 or low end Cat. 4 at the time, the result would be the same.

It was really bad in and around the dome… I remember the pic of a woman in a wheelchair that just got covered up and left there…
That was the Convention Center, not the Superdome.

Look up Black Water Katrina stories
While every swinging dick that was able to play badass security guard has a story of shooting “criminals” after Katrina, common sense does not support that being factual.
Not one victim had a friend who reported the illegal killings of their podna?
Guy shot 38 looters and gave the bodies to the Coast Guard and not one person thought that was odd and raised an issue with it?
All the media that was in NOLA and not a single one elected to investigate or found evidence of the murders.
Sounds like the biggest conspiracy in history.
We had woke, social justice warriors in 2005, plus good honest people and nobody pressed the issue of mass killings.
I think it may have happened on a very small scale.
I think the majority of the stories were a result of dick measuring contests.
Basically, you killed 3 looters, so, well I killed 15 then the next guy was a sniper on a rooftop a killed 30.
How many sight lines do you have from the top of a downtown skyscraper?
I smell bull shite on a large scale.

Correct. I commanded the SRT for the National Guard. I don't recall anyone dying from thirst. We did have a guy commit suicide by jumping from one of the higher levels. It was a shite show when the power went out and the conditions were about as nasty as you can get inside the dome. The Convention Center was really bad as it wasn't even a shelter and had over 10,000 people in it. We had to evacuate them later after we got everyone out of the Dome.

They were protecting the building and were going on the roof mostly for air. They had the run of the place. Not sure what the building was. You're probably right.

BR lost power so no tv, but on the radio when they said “the roof has been torn off the Superdome”… neglecting to say it was just sheet metal panels and a later hole…
I remember thinking “oh holy frick..”
