While the Commander-in-Chief of the military, the president is still a civilian and thus does not have a military rank. This is done on purpose to preserve civilian control of the military.

Sorry, but if the question is one of who holds the highest military rank, then no. The president is a civilian and doesn’t have a military rank.

If you're talking a 4 or 5 start general I am out.

I had a psuedo-familiyt member (my dad's brother's wife's brother) who was a two star in the Army. I knew him some and when he was on Lackland for something else he stopped by my squadron to check in on me.

It was one hell of a fire drill when a 2-Star Army general popped over to see an Airman basic about 4 weeks into basic training.

I have a good friend who is currently a Captain in the Navy (I think that is a full-bird colonel equivalent).

They retired from the military before running for office.

Many US presidents were veterans. In fact, neither Grant nor Ike were the first to hold the rank of General before being elected President. But none still held their former rank while in office.

Not a relative but I hooked up with an Army 1LT when I was an E-4 in the Air Force. She recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Does that count?

Colonel- nephew was the youngest in the army. Extremely smart. Obamas generals saw how good he was and got rid of him along with other officers he said were the best.
