I did. Actually bought my challenger a year before graduating college.

Was nice to have the fastest car of any student on campus tho.

I bought a new car the day I turned 18. It was a terrible financial idea. But I kept it for 240k miles, and never did anything to it but change fluids, so it worked out.

I will NEVER purchase another new vehicle.

One because no one makes anything with my requirements. If jeep finally factory produces a HEMI powered jeep, I will buy a demo.

Two, 40k for a boring vehicle is crazy to me.

We bought a new 4Runner for my wife and we're going to ride it until it dies or we outgrow it.

It's a year old and only has 7700 miles on it. I'm hoping it'll last a while.

ETA She was 29 and I was 31, just to fit in with the thread.

OK, I'll bite, when is it better to take a huge depreciation hit 1 second after you sign?

I agree. I won't buy a new car until I can afford something fast and cool.

I forgot that you don't take huge depreciation hits buying a used car. It retains the value when you drive a used car off the lot

Cash for clunkers drove used car prices up dramatically. When a used car with 20-30k miles is only 3-4k less I'm buying the new car everytime

Sometimes with rebates and whatnot, you can get a new vehicle for around the same price as a late model used vehicle, depending on the make/model. Plus you know the history of the vehicle if it is new.

Probably pretty even buying a Toyota Camry or 4runner new with 0% financing.

Not much depreciation on those things

A two year old car is a two year old car. In theory you can buy it one day and sell it the next for the same price. You didn't answer my question.

What did you do in the office while you "had to go talk to the manager" to see if you could work a deal with yourself?

Every car depreciates at least 15% the day you sign, and probably a lot more. Not much of a market of people wanting to pay full price for a used car.

I did answer your question - however, your premise is faulty. Both new and used cars depreciate as soon as you buy them.
