Just have to make sure the water is hot enough so the floors don't look wet

Screw that . When mine is out of town I lounge around and smoke a cigar and drink a couple of beers , enjoy the peace .

I don't know why you're getting so many down votes. I liked your response.
The parentheses confused them.

My wife is a lovely human being, but she always wants to know what I’m doing. And I don’t mean that in a “where were you/who were you with way”; I mean that I can’t do anything around the house without her stopping me to explain what I’m doing. Then why I’m doing it. And to then explain enough about the thing for her to tacitly approve of the way I’m doing it. Which she always does, because I’m an intelligent, competent, thoughtful individual.
But it’s grating to the point that I’ll frequently wait to start projects until I know she’ll be out of the house, just so that way it will be further along by time she notices and the explanation is simpler/requires less visualization

my boys and I can relate.
7PM last night after i literally hosed the boy off outside to get the muck off of him and made him take a shower, i was like 'hungy? lets go get a couple of personal pan pizzas and watch a movie!'
so we drove to pizza hut, ordered 2 mini pizzas, came home and watched a movie. i can't imagine that ever happening with the full household in place.

eta but you are 100% correct. look at the smugness of this response when i was building the 'news ticker' on my dashboard.
NO BIAS HERE RIGHT?
feel free to count all the subtle 'digs' in that response. I got 5.

I know I get a lot more done at my model desk when Mrs Vader is out of town.

When single, I would run a new electrical outlet, paint rooms, replace bathroom vent fans, garage door openers, etc.
I got through one successful project without bitching with my ex wife. The second project where the female speed brake kicked in was my last.

Is that a cat condo window? Tell the boy not to jump off that roof.

Much more productive when I’m home alone. Not that she stops me from getting stuff done, but I’m more motivated. I guess cause I can do everything at my own pace.
When she went out of town in January I knocked out 4 projects I had been putting off for months.

I guess that's relative. I'm more productive in the things I want to get done. Not with the things she wants done.

I have to preface this by saying I love my wife and she's generally awesome
Wife went to Honduras for a week to do free knee replacements at a hospital so I was solo with both kids
It was so damn easy. Productive, relaxing, fun, etc.
It's definitely the whole "having total control over the what/when/how" of everything that just makes it seem easier.

1000%. I can power nap in between projects without any bullshite. I can get things done without having to explain what and why I am doing it. I dont have to stop every 10 minutes when she gets a new or different idea in her head.
