I think it was 1993 or 94.

I was only a HS freshman so couldn't partake in the debauchery.

The drinking age had recently been raised to 21 but I remember it changing back to 18 for one night (it might have been the entire weekend) because of a court challenge ... or something like that

I'm sure there are some epic stories bc every single 18-20 year old went out in BR that night.

Now that I’m older than 21 I think that 21 is a good legal drinking age but it should probably be 25

Nothing really changed. I was buying beer at 15 so a law for one night didn't make any difference. I knew all the stores that did not id.

It was always 18 when I was 18, then they changed it to 21 right after I turned 21.

But I've been drinking since I was 16, so it didn't really matter.

Eta:
And buying beer and cigarettes for my old man as early as 13,14yrs old.

It didn't change much, I was 20 at the time, and the raising of the drinking age didn't limit me getting drinks in bars. Enforcement was pretty lax on the drinking age...

Drinking is a terrible thing for society. We should make people pass a test and acquire a drinking license to be allowed to drink. Common sense alcohol laws.

Hell, I remember the age of drinking/buying was if you could reach the top of the bar to put money down, they would serve you.

I can tell you that it's been all downhill in this state since they caved and let the Feds have their way.

The law changed from 18 to 21 around October 1986.

I was legal for 3 months, then waited until summer 1989 to be legal again.

I remember that. There was some rumblings that the change to the law was being challenged in court. All of the bars starting selling to 18 year old again and everyone went out and got hammered. Turns out it was just a rumor

You could still legally drink in a bar in BR at 18 until about 1996. You couldn't buy it in a store though. It was due to some loophole in the law.

Make it to where girls fail it so they have to let me buy all their drinks

It was around 1989. I only remember this because me and my best friend were both 19 and were legal, then they moved the drinking age to 21. They grandfathered in people born before Sep. 30, 1967 and allowed them to stay legal. My buddy was born in October and I was September, so I was legal and he wasn’t for the next year and a half! Classic.....

Louisiana grandfathered anybody who was already 18. I wasn’t in Louisiana.

The thing about 1996 is new to me though.

The laws where I lived in Central were merely a suggestion. I spent many nights at the Silver Moon at 16 bellied up to the bar

We all went to Fat Harry’s. We got wasted. Then, we all got laid.

It was great.

Law changed on August 15th, 1995, with a 10 day waiting period before going into effect, so officially August 25th, 1995..... i turned 21 on September 25th...one month later....

The bars I was going to didn’t enforce the 21 law for a while when this was all happening. And yes it was in the mid 90’s when it happened
